Victoria Small Business Digital Adaptation Program Frequently Asked Questions
The Small Business Digital Adaptation Program will allow eligible businesses to trial and then receive access to digital products, tools and training they can use to build digital capability in their day-to-day operations.
Businesses can start using a new product, like point-of-sale payment, or restore access to a lapsed product under this program. Upgrades to existing digital tools, like adding a shop to a current website, are also included.
Products currently available to businesses through this program include website, e-commerce, finance and digital business management tools.
Businesses can check their ABN for eligibility, and purchase selected digital products from suppliers who have partnered with the Victorian Government. Once businesses have purchased a product, they can apply for a rebate of up to $1,200 to access the product for 12 months.
The Small Business Digital Adaptation Program is for small businesses, sole trader, and micro-businesses.
To be eligible for the program an applicant must:
- Operate a business located in Victoria
- Hold an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Have held that ABN on 28 March 2021
- The program runs until 18 July 2022
- Trial (and subsequently purchase) a selected, approved software service (QuickBooks)
- Apply for a rebate of $1200 to cover 12 months' access to your product/s by no later than 11:59pm on 18 July 2022
- You will be contacted to confirm you’ve begun to adapt your business to a digital environment after six weeks
- The Digital Adaptation Rebate will be paid after confirmation of continued use
- You will be sent an evaluation survey 6-12 months later
- Beyond the 12 month period, further costs are the responsibility of the business

To be eligible, you must be digitising your business and signing up to QuickBooks Online for the first time, or if you were previously and you would like to resume using the product, it must have been at least 12 months since you had an active subscription.
The Small Business Digital Adaptation Program will not cover the cost of existing customers re-connecting, adding additional subscriptions, or upgrading to a higher plan.
Financial advisors, accountants and bookkeepers are encouraged to let Victorian small businesses know about the program, however in order to be eligible for the rebate, the small business owner must sign up to QuickBooks on their own. The QuickBooks invoice is required to be in the small business owners name to be eligible for the rebate.

During the free trial, you may pay any number of employees using QuickBooks Payroll free of charge. - QuickBooks Payroll powered by Employment Hero: Payroll services are offered by a third party, Employment Hero. QuickBooks Payroll is only accessible via QuickBooks Online subscriptions. You will be charged $5.00 (incl. GST) per month for each ‘active employee’ paid using QuickBooks Payroll. An ‘active employee’ is one who has been paid at least once in the billing month.
