Connecting HSBC Business account

I, like a number of people, have been struggling connecting my HSBC business accounts to my Quickbooks Self-Employed account. Finally after many weeks I can now connect (I received an message from HSBC that my third-party permissions had now finished, and they were sorry for the inconvenience). The problem is it only connects to tell me my cash total in my HSBC account, and doesn’t import any transactions. Because of the length of time it’s taken to resolve the initial problem I’ve managed to import transactions as a .csv file up the the 1st May but the last two weeks still haven’t worked.

Why does it not automatically import the transactions from HSBC now? It kind of makes the system redundant and considering I’m now into the second month of issues and paying monthly for this to work properly I’m very disappointed.

Let's apply the following troubleshooting steps to download the updated list of transactions.

  1. Ensure you’re able to login to your bank’s website.
  2. If you’re able to login successfully, kindly take note of the exact username and password you used.
  3. Log back into your QuickBooks Self-Employed account.

Hello there, Jamie_artist.

A banking fix takes effect after the fact. You'll want to download the past transactions manually via the .CSV file. It can import earlier data back to January 1, 2014.

Also, you can manually update your bank so you'll be able to import the recent transactions. Let me show you how:

  1. Click Gear.
  2. Click Bank accounts.
  3. Click Refresh all.

Thanks for the reply but that doesn’t solve it. Whilst it shows me the total in my account it isn’t updating the transactions and hasn’t done so since I reconnected the bank account. I’ve refreshed, I’ve connected securely but still not seeing any new transactions.

Thanks. I added the bank accounts again to QB which has solved the issue as it asked for my permission to allow QB to connect to HSBC online. Problem solved!

I'm having the same issue for the last 2 days.  It updates the total amount in the bank account, but the import icon is still spinning and has been for the last 40 mins.  It did the same last night.  How long should the import take?

Hi there, BoyceE.

Let's try some basic troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.

If you're referring to the Import transactions page that keeps spinning, try using an incognito browser to rule out the possibility webpage issues.

Here's how:

  • For Internet Explorer of Firefox, press Ctrl Shift P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl Shift N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command Shift N.

Then, try importing bank transactions again.

However, if you're referring to the Bank accounts page, then I suggest following the recommended steps above provided by my peer, juVielL.

Keep me posted on how it goes. I'll be here to keep helping.

Hello Vespa,

What happens when you try to connect your HSBC business account, is it saying that you have to get a  unique number from QuickBooks? How are your trying to connect your HSBC account?

Hello

This is the screen I get, each time I want to update the transactions on my account I need to re-enter this code. Honestly this is annoying as I don't always have my code generator with me and HSBC does not support code generation on mobile devices (for business users).

I would be great if this was added/fixed!

Many thanks!

Hi there, RavT.

We are updating our bank feeds to comply with the new Open Banking regulations. As a result, your bank connection in QuickBooks will need to be updated to our new Open Banking connection.

A banner will be displayed in the QuickBooks Banking page when your bank account is ready to be updated.

Entering codes is another level of security added to the password and username combo. Some banks provide connection to QuickBooks per account type. The types may have different level of security, and not all of them are available for online banking. This depends on what your bank provides.

I suggest contacting your bank. This way, you can confirm from theme if they have no system maintenance or the code isn't expired. Also, they can verify if there's another option to remove this prompt when updating transactions on your account. Then, enter the right information outlined below when connecting your bank:

  • Use the same login credentials that you use to access the bank account itself.

  • Confirm your security answers with your bank and make sure to input them properly.

  • For some banks, the questions and answers need to be in the exact same order as they're listed on your bank's website.

  • Check on your bank's website if you're using the correct sign-in information. Once verified, re-enter it in QBSE. It might also help to use the minimum character limit allowed by your bank.

Please check this article on how to edit transaction you already reviewed: Categorise and edit transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @katherine123.

I can provide clarifications about connecting your bank in QuickBooks. When adding your account through bank feeds, the approval time to connect successfully will depend on your bank.

If you need to expedite the given timeframe, it would be best to contact your bank. By doing so, we'll be able to know if you can connect with HSBC right away.

Once you're connected, I suggest checking out the following article to help a user categorize transactions: Create rules to speed up reviews in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
