I've just signed up for QuickBooks and am trying to import my Amex transactions. I couldn't see a UK option, so chose the US option, which worked, except it imported all the transactions as dollars rather than sterling.
Where do I find the option to change the currency for the account or is there an Amex UK option? I can't find one in the list of banks to connect to.
Currently AMEX is not supported on a direct connection to QuickBooks, though we are working closely with the bank to have this implemented in the coming months.
You can keep your eyes on our Community article linked here which will be updated as soon as the connection is available.
In the meantime, you can create your bank as a chart of account and update this using CSV imports - this will allow you to use the banking feature without a live connection.
Please disconnect the US account as there is no way to convert these transaction amounts to show as GBP.
Get back to us below if you have any questions on this,
Hi there, tobya.
For now, we're unable to give a specific time frame is when the Open Banking connection will be available.
As mentioned by my colleague above, you can always refer to this article:Understanding if you can upgrade your bank feeds to Open Banking. This provides information about the updates for bank connection.
Once the connection of your bank will available, please refer to this article to see detailed steps on how to connect your bank, card, and even your PayPal accounts to QuickBooks Self-Employed: Connect bank and card accounts to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
Let me know if you have other questions related to QuickBooks. I'm always here to help.
I have this problem too so no doubt so do others
A swift resolution to integrate it would be greatly appreciated otherwise partly defeating why I'm using QB! (not the best first impressions as I've just joined!)
You will have to csv your transactions into your account as American express is not on the new open banking feeds yet and all standard feeds have been disconnected.
I think its shameful and pathetic not to continue supporting AMEX. There shouldn't have been a break in service. My last update worked till 12th March.
How long ago did you know of the change in protocol ?
With the size of company, and resources - was AMEX deemed an irrelevant connection?
Manual uploads are tiresome and take significant time to verify.
We will be moving off QB after 2.5 years as soon as possible. This is the last straw.
Please don't respond with some nonsense marketing response.
QuickBooks automatically downloads and categorizes your bank and credit card transactions. Let me provide you some information about this.
We're switching to OAuth to a reliable connection with online banking. If you're referring to this protocol, we'll send you an email and notification when your bank is ready for the switch. Also, once you agree with the switch, we'll take care of the rest.
You can check this US article for more information about OAuth: What's OAuth and What's Changing With Banking Connections.
Let me know if you need further assistance. I'll be here to help.
I'd like to make it up with you, Z12E.
Rest assured that we're working closely with AMEX to have this implemented soon.
In the meantime, you can manually import the transactions. I'll share some articles on how you can do it depending on your subscription:
You can also check the article GeorgiaC provided. It'll be updated as soon as the connection is available.
Feel free to get back to this thread if you have more questions. We're here to address them.
I have the same problem....most annoying part is that i almost had a whole years books which included Amex transactions. I didnt know it had stopped being supported and this alone is reason for me not use quickbooks and in all honesty want ask for a full refund as my accounts without Amex are pointless. I had other issues this week with bank connections and thus had to delete all feeds and start again, thus no amex transactions for the whoIe year! I did not sign up to manually transport any statements and was "sold" on this in that I wouldnt have to. So as it stands I have a tax return to make with about £10000 of expenses missing!
I fully agree and feel the same.
importing Amex statement - is a serious pain.... you have to switch the amounts around ( multiply by -1), and then also reformat the date as the Inadequate and
poor import feature accepts Only a handful of date formats.
my conclusion is that QB supports US needs, all of us in other less privilege countries are wasting our money on this product..,
I'll be cancelling future payments to QuickBooks until they resolve this. I've tried several times over the last couple of days to use web chat and after waiting an hour to then only be passed onto someone else.
If I was to suddenly stop a major part of my work that clients were expecting and paying for I'm sure I would have many people asking for money back and then taking their business elsewhere!
So far the only emails I get are poxy messages saying I've earned another badge! QuickBooks, I don't care!!!!
Sort this issue before I give you another penny and you lose alot of UK business
same problem trying to connect paypal - only supports US and I don't want transactions in the wrong currency. I'm new to QB and this is a bad start. When will these two issues be addressed (Amex and Paypal)???
Not sure I will continue with you without these being resolved, I joined to have less work
So as you can see, days have passed and absolutely nothing offered by Quickbooks to help!!!!
Just started a free trial with FRESHBOOKS, and its imported Amex Uk instantly, also after looking for only a couple of minutes , i already think it will be much better for me, loads more options when categorising expenses, loads of sub options.....free for a month and 60% off for 6 months due to COVID, happy days.....APART FROM THE FACT THAT I HAVE A WHOLE YEARS BOOKS TO DO AGAIN AS QUICKBOOKS CANNOT ADD MY AMEX CARD!!!!!!! SO THAT MEANS A WHOLE LOAD OF WASTED TIME USING IT FOR A YEAR NOT TO MENTION THE WASTED MONEY IN SUBSCRIPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As ive said before, quickbooks will not be getting another penny from me, instead I think im entitled to all my money back as its currently a completely useless service without Amex.....perhaps one day Quickbooks might actually send me a message to apologise. My guess is that the first i hear from them is when they realise my payments to them from Amex (ironically) are now blocked.
By the way just in case you missed it why not try FRESHBOOKS, www.freshbooks.com
And yes ive not only waited ages for a response on email to my issues but wasted hours waiting for webchat to not get any actual help.
USE FRESHBOOKS INSTEAD thats my advice.
Whats going on with AMEX - ,mine was working then it stopped.
AMEX UK have said that they have given you a solution so why is this not working now?
you need to resolve this URGENTLY!!!
To me its clear that we are dealing with an organisation that has no desire to service its subscribers needs. Amex is a primary firm for the supply of cards - yet QB cant connect.
I moving off QB - this is not a firm in my opinion that cares about clients in the UK. It's all about the US.
Instead of crying on this channel every few days - I intend to move to another provider - which I have started to do....
Currently, Amex is not on open banking and there is no time frame of when exactly it will be on open banking, just that it will be coming out an on to open banking. we know it is frustrating but and no ideal having to csv your transactions in, but we can assure your our banking engineers are work with the banks to get them up and running.
Wow, someone actually replied!!! Not at all helpful but at least a reply.
So I'm done with qb and feel I'm due a full refund as once the info was actually needed for a tax return, i had not only lost the amex feed for a few months but due to bad advice from qb also lost every transaction prior to that for the whole year.....if qb thinks it's ok to have to upload and tweak a wholes years statements, what are they being paid for, I can make my own spreadsheets... So in the time in between other messages, I've tried several free trials to find the one that works for me. It's called Coconut. I would recommend everyone try out the Coconut app. It will be free for some of you that do very little invoicing, and a fiver a month if you do and guess what, Coconut was able to upload Amex transactions for this tax year and last with no hassle at all. Nice app, easy to use and cheap if not free for some. So give Coconut a try, nothing to lose and potentially money back in your pocket over qb. Win win.... Oh and very important, they actually respond to you within minutes most times of posting a message on chat. My experience with qb web chat was a complete waste of hours of my life, each time spent ages explaining my issues only to be told, sorry, we don't advise on the self employed app!!!! So once again, give COCONUT a try. getcoconut.com
this is becoming a real issue, I chose quickbooks because it was easy and because I could have everything in one place. When will this be ready, it's been far too long now with nothing but 'we can't put a time frame on it' coming from your side. Give us something more.
The American Express account is one of the banks for which the open banking feature is not yet available. The bank feeds for AMEX and other financial institutions were turned off in compliance with the open banking regulations. Our engineers were working with financial institutions to provide open banking connections for as many banking products as possible. Rest assured this will become available in the future.
As of now, I encourage continuing to upload your transactions to QuickBooks using an Excel CSV file. For your reference, check out this article.
I've also added these articles for more information about open banking:
Please extend your patience while we're working on the fix of the issue. As always, leave a comment below if you have any other questions. I'm a few clicks away to help. Keep safe!
Do you have any updates on when this is going to be sorted? I cannot reconcile my accounts easily without this feature, I am sure many other companies are in a similar situation. The point of subscribing to Quickbooks is to make accounting easier, however this is not possible without the addition of AMEX Business to the banking feed. Please get back to me as soon as possible as to when this is going to be fixed.
Thanks for posting on this thread,
We still have not been given a time frame of when Amex will be on open banking. We have been notified by our team that this is a global issue therefore are unable to provide us with an ETA of when it will be on open banking.
We know this is not ideal and does take longer to import your transactions in and does affect the reconciliation, but soon as we get any updates or time frame we will inform our customers of it.
