I have to keep reconnecting my Barclays bank feed to my Quickbooks account. I didn't have to do this whilst I was using Xero, and quite frankly, it's a pain to have to keep doing. Is there any way around this, please?
Hey there, 193514713098469.
Thanks for letting me know about the bank feed issue you’re currently experiencing with Barclays. Let me help get your bank account connected to QuickBooks Online.
To begin, let's access your account via Incognito window or InPrivate Browsing. It does not store data, which makes it a good place to start to see if there are any issues with the browser.
Here’s how to open a private window:
Next, clear the browser’s cache. Doing so will remove the unnecessary files from that browser which causes odd behaviors. If you’re still having difficulties connecting your bank, please see this article for more troubleshooting steps: Fix online banking errors in QuickBooks Online.
If none of these suggestions work, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team for help with checking the online banking setup. They'll help make sure to re-establish the connection so you can start accepting downloaded transactions.
To contact support:
In the meantime, you can bring transactions into QBO by using the WebConnect feature.
Reach out to me directy if you have concerns about working in QBO. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand. Have a good one.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I should perhaps explain things a bit more. I can connect my bank feed to Quickbooks, and it will import the bank transactions with no problem. The issue is that I have to re-connect the bank feed every day, rather than it remain permanently connected.
Hi I am a book keeper and one of my clients, who is with Barclays, has this same issue.
I do the clients books every month and as he doesn't have access to the internet he has to come to me to put in his bank security details to update the bank feed in QB's. It's a real pain in the bum!
I was told by Quick Books support over the phone that until Barclays Bank does direct bank feeds this will be an issue.
Well, this is the issue. My accountant has kindly offered to do my bookkeeping, however, as it stands I would need to keep re-connecting the bank feed.
I didn't have this issue for the past couple of years, whilst using Xero.
Hi 193514713098469 and CharlotteM,
Thank you for getting back in touch.
How often you have to re-enter your security details to update the connection really depends on the bank. If they require this to happen every time you update, like you would with online banking, we have to honor it. I understand this is can cause difficulties, as you mentioned @CharlotteM, once Barclays are on a direct feed this should resolve the issue.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with. :)
This is very poor of Quickbooks. I also have a FreeAgent account that I've been using with Barclays for the last 3 years and not a single connection drop. Don't see why Quickbooks can't use the Barclays data services, this extremely poor from a major accounts provider.
Hi NU1
I am sorry to hear about the issue you have been experiencing. In our product if you have pin sentry or a fob set up with Barclays it will regularly ask for it,unfortunately that is part of the agreement with that bank and us connecting as a third party.
We have started the process of moving the main banks,Lloyds ,Natwest, Hbbc,Royal Bank of Scotland to direct feed so far, to using a Bankfeed tool which negates the need for any sign in information or pin sentry as it is set up at the banks end and has written consent at the bank(either via written form or via form connected to online banking) Barclays is the next one we are looking to add to direct feed as Carly mentioned in the last post.
When we do add it if your search for Barclays in the banking page and hit on the symbol for Barclays you will see a get direct feeds option. I appreciate you had a different experience with FreeAgent we can only advise we are working to make the experience of connecting with Barclays in our product easier and this is why Quickbooks bought Bankfeed as a tool. As it means none of these errors regarding sign in or bank website being down
Kind regards
Emma
Thank you for the prompt reply and I really do hope that this is done soon as at the moment its totally unworkable not to have 24x7 bank feed. If it's going to be sometime away, then I will look to open another FreeAgent or Xero account and drop Quickbooks.
Hi NU1
We have spoken to our tier 2 banking support and they have advised currently the direct feed for Barclays is in beta testing as long as that is successful(customers who are in the beta groups transactions upload correctly everyday,no missing transactions etc) it will be opened up to all Quickbooks customers and become live in the product. We do not have exact timescale for this but it should be in the coming months
Kind regards
Emma
That's great to hear and since its that far in, we will manage for the interim. Thanks for the great support.
Thanks for your post NU1, I'll make sure @EmmaM gets your Thanks.
Hi James
Thanks for your reply, I read your solution and will try it the next time I see my client (unless, in the meantime, Barclays enable direct bank feeds).
It's a shame that you can't change the way Quick Books connects to the bank without having to go through this though, I now instruct any new QB clients who bank with Barclays to set up memorable information first before connecting to QB's.
Charlotte
Hi
I cannot connect with the Barclay Feed and therefore cannot download my date to Quickbooks
Is there a problem with Barclays at the moment...
i have previously used Xero and switched because it was a problem
can you advise
Thanks for posting in the Community, fish2,
If I may ask, have you encountered any error message upon connecting your Barclays bank account?
If yes, to get this be fix, you can do a manual update into your account, here's how:
Once bank account is connected, you'll be notified. If you've encountered any error upon updating, you can check how to manually update an account to fix banking errors article for guidance.
However, if the error persists, it would be best to get in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to pull up your account in a secured environment and determined what caused the issue.
To contact us, here’s how:
It's my priority that you're able to connect your bank account, so please feel free to let me know how it goes. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!
A huge Thank You for your reply
I’ll try your suggestions....hopefully this will fix the problem
unfortunately I tried a complete reboot yesterday and it duplicated everything in the account ....:(
i will get there in the end
Has anyone found a solution to this, please? I tried to follow the link posted by James Read, but the message isn't found.
The only way that the feed will stop prompting you to reconnect every time you update will be if you have selected to use a memorable word rather than a PINsentry code. You will need to disconnect the feed and reconnect to get this option. We are implementing Open Banking in the next month, which will be a direct connection with your bank iwhere you will only need to reauthorise every 90 days. This will be fully implemented by 14th September, however the Barclays connection is currently being rolled out - you will receive an option to move to Open Banking at the top of your Banking page, please look out for this and follow the steps.
Thanks,
Talia
Hi Talia
Are you able to explain how the open banking 90 day re-authentication process will work with Quickbooks / Barclays?
Do you know if it will be a simple “click here to continue permission”, or will it require some sort of verification.
According to this article, it is the rules set down by EU PSD2 that mean we will all have to re-authenticate every 90 days (which is a step back from the current Barclays memorable phrase and passcode) but hopefully that will change to a much longer authentication period at some point.
Thanks for joining the thread, @Anonymous,
How often you re-authenticate your account depends on your bank's discretion. Any changes with the security or connection or from your bank is not automatically synced to QuickBooks, which is mostly the reason why you're getting error messages asking for you to complete secure connection.
Since Barclays recently completed their maintenance, you should now be able to reconnect by selecting a memorable word/passcode as the login step. It is best to check this directly to your bank, we're unable to provide confidential information for any updates related to your bank. They can give you in-depth details on how they handle online banking and its verification process.
As always, please feel free to come back to this thread if you have additional questions. I'll be here to help you anytime. Have a nice day!
Hi Jen
Thanks for this.
I was referring to the new 'Open Banking' that is coming through between now and September 2019.
I understand that with Open Banking, the bank account owner has to give permission for Quickbooks to continue having access to the bank data.
Do you know how this permission is given. Do we click something in Quickbooks?
Hello James,
This will follow the same steps as when originally connecting. The link within QuickBooks will take you to a pop up where you (the account holder) will login to your bank and then reauthorise.
Thanks,
Talia
Was there a solution to this most annoying issue?
Right by now I wish I’d not switched providers!
Having to login with with my pin sentry on the PC is ridiculous
Hi Danwheelwright
We appreciate that entering your pin sentry when updating/connecting to Barclays may be an inconvenience however this is a requirement of Barclays and we are unable to circumnavigate the security requirements of Barclays.
