Hello KMA2020, thanks for posting on this thread and leaving that feedback we will be sure to pass it on to get looked into.
Hi
Did you get to the bottom of the missing transactions?? I am fairly new to QB and bank with Starling, all going ok until about a week ago now transactions that were made using the debit card are showing in my starling app but are not updating on QB, but other types of transactions e.g., DD's, payments in etc. are all updating fine on QB's
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It was actually my client's bank. I told her she would probably get more out of talking to her bank than she would asking QB, as it has to be a problem with how the two communicate and it is in the bank's interest to be software agreeable. QB doesn't seem to care about its interests! Sorry, but I don't know whether she made the call or whether it just stopped. Another possibility is that, as we identified the transactions that it related to, she may just post them manually.
Hi Lala1212, we don't have any reported issue with Starling bank currently; if you fully disconnect and reconnect the account do the transactions then sync as expected? As an open banking partner, we require information to be sent from the bank to ourselves, though we can investigate the cause of the missing transactions.
The simplest solution is to create journal entries for the missing transactions if they are not integrating correctly. beyond that I have not found a work around. This is obviously not a sustainable ongoing solution but in my experience it has been for a few one-off transactions that have not come through the bank feeds correctly. be careful about double entries if they do come through eventually as it will through bank recs out.
Did this ever resolve for you? I have had the same issue repeatedly with QBO, to the point where I am pretty done with the platform. Support tells me the same thing every time to update/refresh and that should do it... but dotted transactions are still missing everywhere making it incredibly frustrating to recon.
Hello there, @Chr2.
I appreciate your jumping into this thread and let us know you had the same concern. I'll help you in recovering those missing bank transactions,
Have you recently changed anything on the bank's website, such as your account number, login, or password? The reason for missing transactions could be due to this.
I can see you already tried updating your bank accounts and still having the same issue.
I recommend checking your uncategorized accounts. The missing transaction may be there.
Here's how:
If you still can't locate them, you can manually download and import the missing bank transactions into QuickBooks from your bank's website. Download CSV files of your transactions after logging into your bank's website. Below are the articles I've provided for more insights:
Once everything is back in order, you can begin categorizing and matching your online bank transactions to post them into the appropriate accounts.
Stay in touch if you need further assistance finding those missing transactions. We're always here to help.
Thanks for all the replies,
The missing debit card transaction has finally turned up in my transaction list, 5 days after it was first showing on my starling account.
One to keep an eye on in the future...
having the same issue with 3 missing transactions from about 2 weeks ago
this is pretty unacceptable as it keeps happening randomly throughout the year and messes up my reconciliation. tracking the missing transactions down manually is really tricky ...
please look into this again
Hello Markus-wa, thanks for posting on this thread, we have passed this on so it can be looked into more.
I am also having this problem with a Starling account. 4 random transactions missing from November. We have only been using Starling for a couple of months so I don't know if this is just a glitch, but from the other messages it seems probably not.
I have been onto QB support who just said "it happens sometimes" and Starling bank support who said that everything looks OK and they can't check individual transactions.
We just moved from Coop Bank which has much worse problems than this but disappointing that the bank feed from Starling -> QB is not reliable.
Hello Community Users, We just wanted to add onto this thread regarding missing transactions. If you have missing transactions and they are for a recent period like the past 24-48 hours it could be that bank has not updated which is when we would recommend using the update or accessing Quickbooks via a private window on the browser and loading the banking screen.
If you get an error refer to this guide on banking errors
If it is a longer period and it looks like the connection has stopped updating it is worth doing a complete disconnection of the banking connection( chart of accounts>edit under the drop down next to account history on the account>disconnect account on save>save and close) Then reconnecting via the banking page.
If the missing transactions are not recent and are sporadic. Report them here on this thread and we'll raise this with our senior technicians . We'd advice manually uploading the missing transactions via a CSV
Any questions or to report an issue please feel free to add them here
Hi, for the problem with Starling Bank it is just random single transactions which are missing. So when you update you might get 3 transactions for today and 2 from yesterday but there actually were 3 yesterday which you can see on the bank's app, one from yesterday does not come through into QB. This transaction never appears and you have to enter it manually.
There are no errors and it is not a loss of connection, it just seems like either the bank or QB has skipped over that transaction.
Obviously don't want to post my missing transactions on here but would be happy to send you details privately if there is a way of tracking down what is happening.

OK to update this for any other fellow QB/Starling Bank customers who are also experiencing this problem, I have spent a while with QB support tracking my missing transactions and they are sure, based on some debug logging they have, that these transactions were never sent by the bank.
Further, there has been some attempt previously to investigate this, although they cannot tell me when this was, and QB have provided debug logs to Starling showing that missing transactions were never sent by the bank. Unfortunately they won't show me the debug logs for my transactions which would be very useful in tracking down the problem. I am not sure how to make any further progress with this annoying problem, will chase Starling some more.
If this is really a problem with Starling you would think that it would affect users of Xero and Sage also but I cannot see any reports of such problems.
Hello,
I've been experiencing this for the past few months with QB & Starling as a combination. I have no real issues with QB & any other bank account or Starling & any other provider.
It is infuriating how transactions are missing and yet my QB seems to be pulling through random transfers from pots that don't appear on the bank statements such as the Roundup feature that Starling provides & the allocation of reserving money to different pots.
It's frankly unacceptable that QB has known this thread has existed and not seeked to rectify & makes any concept of a reconcilliation for a client, bookkeeper, or accountant impossible when you cannot trust the data that's being pulled through.
If you have a Starling account I would seriously consider not bothering with the bank feed feature or to add in transactions yourself that are missed from the bank feed. Each quarter for a client I have to go through and exclude so many roundups and pot transfers.
It would be appreciated if QB actually looked to sort out this frankly blatant glitch in their own systems.
Hi, I have escalated this issue with both Starling and Quickbooks and I am assured they are working together to identify the problem, but it may not be a quick or easy thing to fix.
Is there any update on this fixing of the glitch within Starling specifically & ensuring that only bank statement transactions are considered to be pulled through to QB rather than the inter-pot transfers?
Hello SOM27, we do not have an update for that however we can forward this feedback to our developers.
Can you please put a time scale on this.
I can't justify using Quickbooks if a basic feature doesn't work for a bank in which is advertised should work with no issues.
I can compare a bank and it brings through random transactions between specific pots and misses off payments from direct pots within Starling that aren't the main pot.
Hello SOM27, unfortunately we do not have a timescale for this.
I've been round the houses with both Quickbooks and Starling on this one and I think this is not likely to be fixed. We lose a couple of transactions a month (missing from the bank feed into Quickbooks) but there does not seem to be a way to track back where the problem has occurred. QB say it's at Starling's end and Starling say they sent all the transactions and it is a problem at QB.
For businesses that use pots regularly for different projects and reasons it turns into a major amount of expenditure missed. It's just unacceptable that QuickBooks or Starling just blame each other.
A fault in the bank feed has been spotted and neither of them want to fix it.
I'm not sure it's a case of not wanting to, I don't think they know how to fix it since it seems to occur randomly and there does not appear to be any logging of whether a transaction was sent, so they can't go back to find out what happened. At least that is how I read it from the sparse information they were willing to give me about how it works - I am a software programmer but (perhaps understandably) they don't want to share the details of how the various systems talk to each other.
We have just spotted exactly the same issue with some Amazon payments and other transactions during the same period mentioned here, just random transactions. Is there any update from Startling to QB team re when this will be fixed?
Thanks
