Hello
Has anyone switched to Quickbooks from Xero?
Comments? Good/Bad? For/Against?
Which software is better?
I've been using Xero for about 7 months now and found it to be good but not fantastic.
I've been looking at an alternative to fill the missing gaps which Quickbooks should do apart from the limited users (which is ok now but not very future proof).
Be glad to hear form anyone
Thanks
Richard
Welcome to QuickBooks @volant. My vote is for QuickBooks, but I may be biased
Would you mind telling me more about your business, are there any features in particular that you are looking for?
Hello @EstherY
There's a few functions :). You can probably offer advice on how Quickbooks compares.
Bank feeds - currently Xero really struggles with my one
Purchase orders from app
I'm a self employed running my own business. I sell and fit security solutions as well as offering business system development (IT bascially)

The thing I'm also struggling to find info on is how I move Xero data to QBO.
I've only found one post and it seems to be quite labour intensive. I've done plenty of accounts and understand the implications of missing something. I'm also VAT registered so got to have my books correct.
Thankfully it's only 7months data, but I can't really be bothered to enter it manually!
I am afraid that it looks to be fairly convoluted. There are four types of record that can be imported.
This link shows some helpful articles in how to perform the csv file creation and upload.
Intuit clearly need to do some development work to enable direct links to competing software packages.
Hello there, volant.
I want to make sure you can import data from Xero to QuickBooks Online.
If you're trying to import data to the UK version of QuickBooks, you can use Intuit Data Services. They have the ability to convert the UK version of the Xero program. For the steps on how to import data, you can visit the article I've attached below:
Please let me know if you need more help with importing data from Xero. You can add more details by clicking the Reply option below.
Hello @AlcaeusF
Yes, I am converting from UK Xero to UK QBO.
I visited that link and I believe that will answer the question.
What I would really like to be able to do is run a demo in QBO so that I can see what it's like before purchasing. (unfortunately if I take out the trial I don't get the 6month discount :( )
Hey there, volant.
I appreciate your prompt response.
I'd be glad to let you know that you can run a demo without taking out the free trial. You can use our QuickBooks Online UK test drive by visiting the article below:
Links to Online Sample Companies - Test Drive QuickBooks Online.
If you need any help with importing your data, please reach out to me and I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a great day ahead.
Thanks, that's very useful. I've just tried a few things which I know I use a lot of in Xero.
One of them is the ability to upload multiple scanned documents (e.g. delivery notes) and match them up afterwards. Does QBO have a "Central file" storage upload?
Also, on the templates, is it only the 5 options you get? Xero's ones are a little clunky because you edit them in MS Word, but at least you can include and exclude and layout how you want.
Thanks for getting back to us, volant.
It's a pleasure to help.
In QuickBooks Online, you have the ability to add attachments to customer and vendor profiles, as well as, their transactions within QuickBooks. You can check this article for more information about using attachments:
Using attachments in QuickBooks.
Are you referring to the Recurring templates? Or the Custom Form Style templates? Any additional information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Custom form style templates
Thanks for the additional info, volant.
You have the ability to import your own layout by using the Import style feature. You can enable the option through the QuickBooks Labs window.
Here's how:
1. Click the Gear icon.
2. Under Your Company, click QuickBooks Labs.
3. Next to Import Style, enable the option.
4. Click Done.
To import your own custom template, you can follow these steps:
1. Click the Gear icon.
2. Under Your Company, click Custom Form Styles.
3. Click the drop-down arrow next to New style located in the upper-right corner.
4. Click Import style.
Feel free to keep us posted.
Thanks
That should be a more promoted feature. It's very good.
No worries, Volant,
I'll get this raised to our development team and see what I can do.
In meantime if there is anything else we can help with, let us know. :)
Well in my effort to move and have a hopefully seemless transfer, I raised a request through the approved QBO form to transfer from Xero, including adding them as an Advisor on my system.
It's over 24hours and I haven't had a confirmation or anything.
I've also emailed them and not got even an automated reply.
Not helping my liking of QBO unfortunately!
I really want to move, but it needs to be hassle free
Well I'm not impressed with the support (or lack of it) so far.
Is this what everyone complains about?
Hi Volant,
We certainly want your transition from Xero to QuickBooks Online to be as seamless and hassle free as possible.
To help with this, we do have a service for checking the current status of your migration request with our Data Services Team directly.
Simply use our Check my Status form to Check Status. You will need to enter the email address and case reference you used to submit your request to get an update on the progress of your migration. You will also be able to Chat directly with our Data Services team via instant message to keep you updated.
Let me know if you need anything further
Hi Richard,
We have a lot of clients transitioning over from Xero to QuickBooks and the general comments that we get are that QuickBooks is a lot easier to use and intuitive.
I personally find that Xero looks like an accounting piece of technology that can be a little scary to some clients that aren't particularly good at looking after their finances.

Hi,
We are looking to migrate from XERO to QuickBooks Desktop and I was hoping to read the article that you referenced but it no longer exists (at least using the original link).
If you can help direct me to the article or any helpful information on how we can migrate from XERO to QuickBooks desktop I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
Hi Richard
Quickbooks all the way. We ran a 6 month trial of Xero alongside Quickbooks Desktop (at that time) and found that although Xero had some good features there were many limitations and Xero support / Developers were not listening. We switched to QB Online and loved it (all be it not from Xero). I have been using it for over a year now and it is brilliant - highly recommend it

Hi,
I'm a new Quickbooks user and am switching from Xero. The question is how? Your dataswitcher service only seems to be available for switching from Sage.
Please help, otherwise I may have to stick with Xero.
I'm in the UK using UK versions of both Xero and Quickbooks
thanks
I'm happy that you're moving to QuickBooks Online, UKR!
I think you've read a different reference. We're actually offering conversion from Xero for the QBO UK versions, and I'll be sure to share the right reference with you. Simply fill in the form, and our Data Migration team will reach out to you.
We have Help articles in the Community in case you need references in the future.
If you have questions, please feel free to add a comment below.
Call and ask Intuit Data Service to convert your file. Should you need to resolve it in due course, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
Hope it helps.
