I've checked our records, David F Owen. There are no open cases the same as yours.

You can follow Angelyn_T's steps on how to resolve it and change the tax codes.

If you're unable to do so, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer care support. This way, an agent can take a better look at this. Follow MadelynC's steps on how to get in touch.

Hello Sue. mikeknightau

Can we confirm which payroll you are wanting to change the employee tax code in,Is it Paysuite,Standard or Advanced payroll?

I am having the same issue.  We recently migrated over to Advanced, the system didnt give us a choice.  I have to change a number of Tax Codes, but it will not allow me to do this.

Really struggling with the new software, and how I am going to show the furlough calculations.

Thank you for joining the thread, @SGreen2019.

In QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can change the tax codes through the employees' tax information. Here's how:

  1. Click on Employees at the left pane, then select Employees.
  2. Select the employee's name from the result and scroll down to the Tax information section.
  3. Hit on the pencil or edit icon.
  4. Update the tax code from there.
  5. Tap on the Save button to record the changes.

If you're getting the same problem, I recommend doing the steps in a private window. Some times, the regular browser tends to hold onto information and over time causes problems while working with QuickBooks.

To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift +N

If that works fine from there, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Also, using other supported browsers can help us narrow the cause of this behavior.

Post again if you have any other questions. I'm a few clicks away to help. Have a good day!

I am having similar issues but in following your advice I see no Edit/pencil. If I change the code the Save button does nothing. Tried Safari and Chrome browsers same result.

Has anyone had a solution to this problem?  I only have 4 employees to pay.  One of them had a new non-standard tax code for 6 April 2020.  I had to manually amend the PAYE figure last month just to be able to pay the main employee with the correct tax deduction. The Advanced Payroll seems to allow you to add a tax code for a new employee and allows you to enter the tax code upon leaving but what about other code changes?  How are we supposed to add these?

This has been resolved by support.  Basically the transfer from PaySuite to Advanced Payroll is filling in unnecessary information in the Employee Details \ TAX and NI Details tab.

In the bottom half of the form the Tax code at leaving date had the W1/M1 box checked.

Below this the "Last entries on P11 Deductions Working Sheet" said "Week" but not week was selected.

Uncheck the W1/M1 box.

This should allow you to change the dropdown "Week" to "Select period"

These two changes should let you change the tax code and save the employee details.
