Since the change over the gear icon has disappeared from the payroll overview. Now when I enter cis suffered and save it I can’t seem to find where I submit an eps to HMRC do they now send it automatically? Any help would be appreciated as it’s driving me nuts. Thanks
I understand that you’re having trouble submitting an EPS in QuickBooks Core Payroll. Let’s get this sorted out, Bob.
EPS is a form you may need to send to HMRC along with your FPS. It provides information about each employee’s National Insurance contributions and tax deductions. You typically submit an EPS to claim refunds, report values not included in the FPS, or make declarations to HMRC.
The EPS typically auto-generates each month, but you may need to submit it manually, depending on your settings.
Here’s how you can submit an EPS in QuickBooks Core Payroll:
Also, you can set up RTI (Real-Time Information) reporting to automatically send the EPS to HMRC at the scheduled time.

How do I log into Quickbooks Core Payroll as through my company desktop all it is doing is saying I have to add at least one employee to continue past the Overview screen and the whole point is that I am trying to file a zero EPS because I have no employees!
Before the "migration" this used to happen automatically.
Hi Gradwell, thanks for joining the QuickBooks Community
It isn't possible to bypass the payroll setup to run payroll. In this case, you would need to enter the details of one employee or yourself to submit a nil EPS.
If you need any further guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team and we'll be happy to help in any way we can.
I can't submit an EPS either! The option. has completely gone.
Hello there, Richard156. Let me provide details about the missing option to submit EPS and route you to the appropriate support.
I've noticed a similar question about the disappearance of payroll history after migrating to QuickBooks Core Payroll. Your inability to locate the option to submit EPS may be due to the loss of payroll data during migration.
With this, I recommend contacting our payroll support team. They have the necessary tools to look into this issue safely and securely. Before doing so, please check out our support hours to ensure we address your concerns.
Here's how:
In addition, you can check this article to see all your previous FPS and EPS submissions from the Payroll Tax Centre: View submitted FPS and EPS filings in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

Sadly there was nothing they could do for me. The new system apparently can not produce an EPS for companies with no employees (which the old system could) so I have to look for another system just to file the zero report for a dormant company or the suggestion was “add an employee” which was a pretty pointless suggestion!
Hi,
I am trying to understand how to submit an EPS for a nil payroll. There is no Reports section within the Payroll section. The EPS also isn't available in the new Payroll reports in the Report section.
Please could you give further instructions on where to find it.
I appreciate you for joining the thread, @Nicki12.
I'll help you understand how to submit an EPS for QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll.
If you're using QBO Advanced Payroll, you can follow the steps below. But beforehand, you can set up RTI reporting and choose when to send EPS to HMRC automatically. From there, QuickBooks sends EPS for you at a scheduled time.
Once you're ready, here's how:
For QBO Payroll Core, you can file a nil payroll EPS submission to HMRC by having the payroll periods with zero figures and submitting the most recent EPS. If you're using QBO Standard Payroll, you can check out this article for further guidance: How to submit an EPS in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.
If you're having payroll issues or seeing error codes, this reference can help you fix it: Fix common payroll issues and error codes.
Please let me know if you have any questions about submitting EPS or other Payroll-related tasks. I'll be right here to help.
Despite what they say on here, since QBO payroll was upgraded it can no longer do EPS! Some upgrade that is.
I'm now using HMRC Basic PAYE Tools.
Hi,
This thread relates to Core payroll which was why I added my query here, though I perhaps wasn't clear in my message. You have given a solution for both Standard and Advanced, but didn't mention Core payroll at all.
It appears, as others in this thread have mentioned, that it isn't possible to submit a nil payroll and file the EPS through Core. Please could you advise if it is possible?
Hi Nicki12 It is possible to submit an EPS in relation to a period of inactivity/non payment. You would have leave the pay period/do nothing and then when you'd like to submit the EPS, in between the 6-19th of the following month, you would navigate to the payroll taxes section and the EPS should've automatically generated.
Thanks John. It was yesterday (9th July) when I was looking. Payroll hadn't been run at that time, and there was no EPS in the Payroll Tax section. Does something need to be done to activate this process?
Hi Nicki12 Have you previously ran and submitted a period with active employees/payments in Core, when did you set up or migrate to Core and I presume that you're the period of inactivity/non payment that you want to account for is June?
Hi John. Yes it was for June. I think this client was migrated by the QB team to Core at the end of May.
If the issue is related to the payroll history not being present then I feel QB should be doing more to migrate the data across to help with these issues, as you aren't giving us an option in this migration.
Hi Nicki12 The issue isn't related to the payroll history being absent, it could be that the payrun for June was tested/trialed in some way which has prevented the EPS being populated or that the migration took place in the month of June, I appreciate that you stated it may have been at the end of May. There isn't a way to re-populate the EPS if it hasn't generated therefore you could possibly use HMRC's basic tools.
Submitting an EPS ought to be a simple matter and not require tedious workarounds. I wish that QuickBooks would provide software that is indeed intuitive and fit for purpose.
