Hello burgateengineer,
Did you go through all steps needed to connect QuickBooks to HMRC? Where does it state that it is not connected?
Thanks,
Talia
Hi yes I went through all the steps correctly as far as I understand.
On the VAT page (upper right) I get an amber circled exclamation mark stating 'Refresh your VAT centre to stay connected with HMRC.'
When I click the 'Refresh Now' button I then get a red circled exclamation mark stating:
We can’t connect to HMRC right now
Let’s check a few things out to get you back on track.
When I click learn more it just lists the things I have already done.
Thanks
Matt

Hello Wolfen,
Are you on Flat Rate Scheme?
Thanks,
Talia
Talia, no we are not on a flat rate scheme
Hello Wolfen,
To confirm, what error message are you getting?
Thanks,
Talia
on the left side of the screen (VAT enabled)
on the right side,
1, as soon go on to TAXes it shows for one second "Great Work …."
then
2, "Refrest your VAT centre to stay connected to HMRC"
below that it says "The connection to HMRC has stopped working"
then "Refresh now"
I did that and ….
3."We can't connect to HMRC right now"
if look at open returns "Status" is "Blocked"
Hello Wolfen,
Can I check if the gateway ID is correct for the VAT registration number that is entered under 'Edit VAT' and 'Edit settings'?
Thanks,
Talia
Hello Wolfen,
Just to let you know, I have edited your reply to remove your personal information from the public post. I was looking to check whether the gateway login you have entered is 100% set up for the VAT registration number - rather than needing to see those numbers.
Thanks,
Talia
Hi Talial. sorry I did not know what you looking for... yes the gateway and VAT numbers are right. I logon on to HMRC and it all set to receive a VAT return from accounting software . help
Hello Wolfen,
Would you be able to go to your account & settings > advanced and then disconnect MTD, once you have done this reconnect MTD and then let us know if you still get the same message.
Thanks,
Talia
same thing, log on with the gateway, enter security code, grant permission to QuickBooks. it come back to say "Well Played" then continue, it say connecting to HMRC may be 30 sec to compete, then "we can't connect to HMRC"

Hi
I've spoken to HMRC and the MTD team at Quickbooks and both have been very helpful. I had set up everything correctly and am connected to HMRC correctly, the error that come up as Blocked is because I'm not due my next VAT period till the end of June, so after this I've been assured that when I refresh it will connect correctly and show as open.
Thanks again for the info.
Thanks,
Useful piece of info, I'd clicked through and set-up, receiving info from HMRC Digital we were all good to go but then QuickBooks failed to connect. Might be useful if this info was actually displayed in QB surely!
I had exactly this problem and tried all of the other fixes such as disconnecting then reconnecting non of which worked.
In the end, I rang Quickbooks who solved the problem in a couple of minutes.
In the Taxes section, click Edit VAT on the top right and check your VAT number does NOT have any spaces in it. If it does, remove the spaces and it will hopefully fix the connection issue.
It worked for me and I managed to submit my VAT return at long last
Thanks for taking the time to share your solution with others Stuart, I'm happy to hear you were able to submit your return :)
