Doing MTD for first time. Already had the email confirmation from HMRC so decided to give it a go !
"Check VAT number" ..... read through this whole thread before deciding to simply delete and re-enter my VAT number. I noticed on the email from HMRC the VAT number had no spaces and no GB (the current number I had did have the GB), so I deleted it and re-entered .... no spaces no GB .... exactly what was on the email, and Hey Presto it now works !!!!!
So I would suggest this solution !

Since you've done everything to file your return and get the same check VRN message, I'd recommend contacting our Care Support team to investigate this further. They have tools to see your setup, and in that way, the unexpected behavior would be resolved as soon as possible.
