I don't know for certain, but Intuit will not be dropping Desktop in a hurry. There are a lot of Desktop customers in the UK, some of whom run multiple companies on it. For Intuit not to implement MTD would generate a hell of a lot of angry customers, who between them probably make Desktop a viable product.

MTD does not come in until next April. So I would expect to see beta versions of QBD arriving for testers later this year.

Hi @Jason_Grant , @nigel1 and @Mollcons , thanks for posting to the community as it's a very good question.

QuickBooks desktop users will not have to convert to our online product as we'll be releasing a MTD compliant version of QuickBooks Desktop at the end of this month (March) providing you have QuickBooks 2019.

Thanks

Hello Andy thanks for contacting us on Community.

QuickBooks Desktop 2019 is only available on a monthly subscription for small business users so that the software is fully updated and in line with current tax needs.

Very poor show QuickBooks, sold licenses for online and assured we won't be able to use desktop, now at the last minute it's you release a desktop version and we can't migrate the data back from online.  My clients and I are paying for these licenses you now say we don't need.  I would change to Sage because of this mis-selling!!!!!

Very very disappointed and pretty angry.

Yes I do Talia, my Facebook page is Connor Accountants & Advisors with a green logo you can message me there, however I am pretty sure I am not the only customer who was lead to believe this was the case for 2 years now I have been migrating clients because a desktop version would not be available at a cost to me and my clients.

Hello Blackcat1,

Can we check why you are using US QuickBooks?

Thanks,

Hello,

MTD is only available on UK accounts - If you need to submit using MTD, you will need to take out a separate QuickBooks UK account and use the bridging tool.

Thanks,

Talia

So fed up with move from desktop

I have just moved from QB2013 Desktop to online because of MTD, I have regretted the huge amount of time I have wasted. The online system is horrible.

So now the desktop version will be MTD compliant but it's a subscription service now making it hugely more expensive.

If any QB agents are reading this , then let me just say thats its virtually impossible to purchase 2019 on a monthly subscription as I think there is only 1 employee who actually deals with desktop version and I ended up being diverted to a company based in Ireland who sold it to me but had to pay nearly £400 in one go yes 2019 is apparently MTD compliant but god knows how you authorise the software As a QB customer for many years I am very angry at the whole upgrading process !!!

As an added update - have just filed the first MTD return and guess what - the software has now completely frozen Yay Quickbooks thanks for taking up huge amounts of my time - I may actually bill you for it

I appreciate you for posting your concern here in the Community, @kjabook.

Allow me to step in and help ensure to isolate the issue in your QuickBooks Desktop so you can get back to your business right away.

I'm glad to know that you've upgraded your QuickBooks to the latest version. I understand that price is an important factor for your business. Intuit is doing its best to meet the accounting needs by investing in technologies making QuickBooks useful and productive to use.

To resolve the issue of your QuickBooks, we'll want to run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool (QBInstall Tool). This will help us identify any component issues related to your QuickBooks Desktop.

First, follow the steps below:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool.
  2. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Windows desktop or downloads folder.)
  3. Agree to the terms of service.
  4. Open the file you downloaded. It's called QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to install.

Once done, you can now use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool:

  1. If you have any open versions of QuickBooks, close them.
  2. In the QuickBooks Tools Hub, select Installation Issues.
  3. Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. This can take up to 20 minutes to run.
  4. When the tool finishes, restart your computer.
  5. Update Windows. Updates prevent and often fix install errors and more.
    a)    Review the “how to manually update” sections of this Microsoft article to update your version of Windows.
    b)    Restart your computer once the updates finish.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support Team. They have additional tools to pull up your account and do a remote session to investigate this further.
