Migrating from QB desktop to QBO

Hello Sld2012, Welcome to the Community page,  have you read the Limitations article & post migrations article on Move My Books as all the answers are on all those articles for you. 

So for question 1, you have access to the Export Tool, which is now live so you can see all reports for all FY's you have on QBDT.  - It would show all the balances entered up to, to the date you migrated.

For Question 2, is completely wrong, 

Basically MMB do not convert Multi Currency. It converts all into home currency which will be GBP.

This is correct and you would not change any of the transactions.

The post migrations tasks advise how to proceed with MC after conversion.

Thank you for your reply an suggestions. I have briefly read the links you have sent. A few years ago I had transferred one of my companies from QBDT to QBO and all historic transactions were transferred (some accounts have been named QBDT and made inactive in QBO). So how come this time QuickBooks has decided to make us users pay for a max of 12 years?

If i just transfer the 2 years for free and everytime I needed to refer to an older transaction i would have to go to the exported file instead of being able to to view it all on QBO!

The post migration tasks says I would need to create a new contact in the correct currency and then allocate the outstanding invoice to the new contact in the currecny currency!

Does QuickBooks/Intuit realse how time consuming this is with 100s of our clients based abroad. This is not helpful in anyway. Certainly thinking of using a different software for my business.

Same here. The option is still on the menu list, but if you try to run that process now. Company - Export You File to Quickbooks Online. I got as far as screen 3 which says that you need to update your software. This is after screen 2 says 'Good news, your company file is ready to move to Quickbooks Online'!

I spoke to Desktop Technical who said that that feature was disabled Autumn of last year. The reason was something to do with Microsoft withdrawing support for Internet Explorerand. He then tried to explain this weird system of having live data and archived. , Case of the Generals lying to the troops me thinks.

As the feature worked previously why kill it, apart from getting a slice of the Move My Files extra years charge scam. Or whatever it's called.

It's no problem at all, I would advise you full read the 3 links I sent to you as it has all the information you need on them.  We acknowledge what you are saying, but management have decided that now this is the only way to move over, we have passed on all customers feedbacks to the team.  We are sorry to hear you feel this way and are thinking of leaving us to go to another software.

How do users get in touch with 'Management'?

We started using QB in 1998, we were Beta testers at one stage, and are totally reliant on the software for compliance. The totally chaotic change to Online is amateurish and ill thought out. The notion that you have delayed support until the 30th of June due to feedback is tosh, its because you weren't ready with the answers businesses need to plan with. With weeks to go you still can't confirm that old data will be accessible through the desktop application. Forgive me for a simplistic view, but surely you simply remove the ability to create a new bill or invoice? You've proven it is easy enough to remove a feature like the ability to transfer directly from Desktop to Online after all.

I realise you are the messengers, but I don't think you or 'Management' have a clue how this is affecting people in real life.

Why not simply reinstate the option to transfer directly at the users risk?

Let me make it up to you by ensuring you'll get a detailed explanation of this migration issue.

We've had to temporarily hit the pause button on all QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online migrations. This means that we won't be able to help you transfer your desktop data over to the online versions. In the meantime, you can manually move your data across using the open balance method.

Aside from that, you can use the Movemybooks tool to successfully migrate your file. However, there are data that can't be converted during the process. For more details, you can read the links shared by Ashleigh1.

Also, I understand that you've contacted our support team, but you can reach out to them again to learn more about why this is happening. Here's how to contact our support:

1. Go to the Help (?) icon at the top.
2. On the Assistant tab, click Talk to a human.
3. Enter your concern in the Type something field, then click the send icon.
4. Click I still need a human.
5. Select Get help from a human.
6. You can either select the Chat with us or Have us call you option.

Totally agree with you Gilbey!

QBDT has been working perfectly fine infact better than QBO (I use both for different companies). The fact that all of the data can not be transferred from QBDT to QBO is just unaccpetable. They have porvided a free migration of up to 2 years and make us pay for a max of 12 years! What about the our clients/suppliers who have been with us for more than that period?

We have 100s of Euro clients, so now i will have to manually make a new entry for each one and then convert their open transactions from GBP to Euros! An upgrade should make life easier not more difficult! Do they think we have such spare time to manually convert all GBP to Euros!!

Another option, you may consider purchasing another 3rd party service to convert QB Desktop data file with multicurrency or other requirements (e.g attachments) to QBO or another accounting app.

When I spoke to someone back in the summer, they explained that the support company which wrote & supported the inhouse conversion software went bust, and Intuit were left holding the baby with no working software.  They had to start from scratch and thus teamed up with Movemybooks....
