Hi there, @Naomi_Lange

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Before we dive in with an accurate solution, did you encounter error upon uploading CSV files?

Some importing files has there own set of format. We need to ensure we verify this requirements to prevent any error issues when importing your CSV data.

Also, we can start refreshing your browser to import them within QuickBooks Online. Click the Reload icon or press F5 on your keyboard. It could be that the error is caused by a full cache on our browser.

Let's try to fix it out by following the recommendation below:

  • Use a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. Then, try to import them in your QBO account again. It's a way to verify if the error is caused by having too much data in our browser.
  • If everything works fine, that would be the time that we can clear the cache to help QuickBooks run better on your computer.
  • The other option is to use the supported browser in QBO.

Once done, let go back and try to import CSV file from PayPal. Let me show you how:

  1. Select Banking from the left navigation bar, then click File Upload.
  2. On the File Upload page, click Browse.
  3. Choose the appropriate .CSV file then click Next.
  4. From the QuickBooks Account drop-down, select the appropriate bank account you want to import your transactions to, then click Next.
  5. Map the statement fields according to your .CSV file's format.
  6. Then, map the Debit and Credit fields. Debit field in QuickBooks mean money out and Credit for money in. When you are ready, click Next.
  7. If you'd like to exclude any transactions, untick the checkbox next to those transactions, then click Next.
  8. Click Yes to import transactions.

@Naomi_Lange

Try open your CSV file, save as XLS, and close the file. Then reopen the XLS file, save as CSV, and close it. Try again to import the CSV file into QBO.

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried what you recommended and the issue still persists. I do not have this issue with uploading CSV files exported (then manually formatted) from Stripe, GoCardless or our bank, CAF Bank. The issue only occurs with PayPal transactions.

I have not set up an automatic feed from PayPal because we accept payments in multiple currencies and QBO doesn't support multiple currency in this way. Am I the only one that has come across this issue?

Thanks again for your reply.

The ONLY solution that has been found is to copy and paste each individual cell into a new .csv file. This is entirely unsustainable based on the number of donations we receive. I'm won

@Naomi_Lange

Another option, utilize the trial period of TP Importer. It would be a serious problem if the tool is unable to read it as well.

Thanks again for your reply.

I've fixed it! Here's how:

Downloaded a different browser, in case it was a browser issue.

Then when I saved the file, I chose 'Save As' then CSV (comma delimited) and within Tools > Web Options > Encoding I chose Unicode (UTF-8).  It may have been an encoding issue.

Phew! Glad this is resolved!

Best wishes,
Naomi

I'm so frustrated...

I have uploaded my transactions from PayPal in a csv file.

All of my transactions are showing up as deposits!

Also, the transaction fees are not showing up.

Does the system not read debits vs. credits?

I'm so confused!

Would appreciate some help.  thank you!!! :)

This isn't the kind of impression we want to leave you with, @designgirl.

I have some information about the PayPal Bank Feeds.  To confirm, are your multi-currency feature enabled? If so, we are currently receiving a report about this, and we don't support multi-currency bank feeds.

It's best to reach out to our Customer Care Support. This way, we can add your account to the list of affected users. Here's how to reach out:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select Contact Us located at the bottom.
  3. Enter a brief description of the issue and then tap Continue.
  4. Click Chat.

With the above recommendation, you can receive a notification whenever a resolution status is available.

Meanwhile, you can follow the steps found in this article for manually uploading transactions: Manually upload bank transactions into QuickBooks Online.

In case you need help with other bank-related tasks, browse this link to go to the page. It has our general banking topics with articles: Find help with your bank accounts.
