Quickbooks Desktop Pro coverting UK version to USA version

Hello DJ84, welcome to the Community page, you cannot migrate from the desktop UK version to the USA version as each version is catered for that region. Your only options are to move to our online version or to another software.

You need a 3rd party service to convert your company file from QBD UK version to another country version (US/CA). Contact me in private for details.

Hi there, our Desktop products are not cross-regional and migration from a UK to US product is not supported.

Some of our clients take that path. They use a HMRC Approved web based solution for submitting their VAT returns for Making Tax digital. You can use your own excel spreadsheet or use an export Excel or CSV from any program.

I think even if you could get it converted you'll be on a loser as I believe the crocks have announced end of support for desktop in the US in a few years time. Having messed up the UK changeover they might get the US one slightly better. The terrible 'archiving' thing they have come up with is a travesty, why they didn't just remove the create new bill or invoice feature I have no idea. Their argument that they can't remove features is flawed as if you recall they succeeded in removing the migrate to online feature direct from desktop a year or so ago.

Let me guide you on how to migrate your clients who are using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) United Kingdom to the United States (US)version, Leon84.

You may wish to consider using a data conversion service from an outside company. We recommend exploring our QBDT Marketplace to find a third-party application that can be integrated with QuickBooks, enabling you to convert your data. Once done, you need to access your desktop software when working with a third party. Just in case you currently don't have access to the correct desktop software you can download, install, and use this 30-day version of QuickBooks Desktop 2021.

Then, follow these steps to export your Desktop data so you have it ready when you use another program to manage your bookkeeping: 

1. Back up your QuickBooks Desktop data.
2. Export your lists and create a detailed chart of accounts report, plus open transaction reports to help you set up.
3. Download all your sales and purchase invoices.
4. Go to Preferences and remove the period end date. Then, check any spelling and notification of changes made before you start. This lets you print without having to confirm multiple times.
5. Choose the invoices for the year you want to download. You can download the entire year however, we recommend downloading invoices by month if you have more than 25 invoices per month. You can print or download the invoices as a PDF and save them in a folder
6. Download and save copies of all your bank statements.
7. In your new accounting system, enter the opening balances into your chart of accounts and import your customer and supplier lists.
8. Finally, re-create or import your open transactions and adjust your open balances accordingly.
