Mileage tracking

I've started using the mileage tracking feature for a couple of clients and have a few Q's:

I don't understand the view by year across the top (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, custom). I've entered journey data from 1/10/10 to 30/4/20 and they all show under '2019'. Is this financial year or calendar year? Neither way makes sense, as the client's financial year is 1/4/19 to 31/3/20.

Why is the date field so exacting? You have to type the date in exactly right or it just enters the journey at today's date. Other areas of QBO can work out that if you type, say, 1/3/20 I mean 01/03/2020. It doesn't even stop and give you an error message if the date is 'invalid', it just uses today's date??!!

Why aren't there any reports, e.g. mileage by financial year, so you can reconcile the accounts? The CSV download just downloads everything!

On one client, I can't access mileage at all, only the download option. I can't add or correct journeys. Is this a permissions thing?

Thanks

Mileage tracking

Hi, Rjwbailey:smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:, As mileage tracking is a new feature in QuickBooks Online at the moment it is limited by user type. If the client you can not add journeys on you are not the master admin on it will not allow you to. Regarding reports, we can pass on your feedback as it is a new feature for this product. The custom date for searches can only be a year or less. We can certainly as well pass on your feedback on the date and it not being predictive like other areas of the product. The year is April to April if you are using the year function rather than customer date, The 2010 data should not show in 2019 however could you send us a screenshot of that as an attachment on this thread? Thanks-Emma

Mileage tracking

Not sure I understand the logic of the Accountant not being able to add/amend mileage records, when we have pretty much free access to the whole of the ledger?

Not sure I understand the concept a 13-month year from April to April either! Shouldn't it follow the company's financial year as specified in Settings? My client's year runs April to March so why doesn't it match to that?

I input a test journey for 1/4/20 and it shows as '2019' with all the 2019/20 journeys, despite it being a new financial year. It doesn't show at all in the summary graph. I input another one for 1/5/20 and it shows as '2020' but the graph shows it under April??!!

Seems like someone needs to think this feature through properly and make it work correctly.

Mileage tracking

If I carry on posting some test journeys for April, May & June 2020:

 - the graph is consistently one month behind

 - the mileage total is calculated from 1 May, but the company's financial year starts on 1 April?
