Having only signed up to Quickbooks recently and spending hours trying to find a suitable Invoice template, I have been told by the online chat that I am unable to change the heading of 'Ship To' on my Invoices!
I really hope there is a way around this as this is not suitable for our business. Can anyone help?
Hello Agouti,
There is no way to change that header. The workaround would be to create your own invoice template - please find attached an article on how to create your own template and import it here.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Talia
I have tried, with no success. Literally only need/want to change that header, quite happy with your templates
Hello,
Creating your only template is the only workaround at the moment. Please use the feedback option under your cog wheel to suggest this feature directly to the developers. They will then look into implementing this into future updates, if possible.
Thanks,
Talia
Has any change happened yet?? Not everyone 'ships' things. Certainly not me. I have different 'project addresses'.
Hello GregMcpherson :waving_hand: Not as of yet, I have checked this and it's still showing as shipping, This can be removed from the invoice if needs be by going into the custom form and deselecting shipping address when in content. Could you leave feedback regarding this? Cog wheel>feedback. Thanks
Thanks Becky.
I understand I can deselect it. I however want the field. I also understand I can build my own custom template, which I might be forced to do. I'm new to QBO and still trying to learn the basics. I do however come from an IT background.
I'm being paid by one person to do work at many different sites (projects). The coding change to be able to select from a few different field titles including 'Project Address' rather than 'Ship To' should in my view be rather trivial in the scheme of things?
Regards
Greg.
Hello, @GregMcPherson.
When creating projects in QuickBooks Online, there's no field for address, thus, we're unable to have a project address when creating invoices. At this time, you can manually update the address from the Ship To column. Also, I encourage following the steps provided above so our engineers will be updated about this feature.

I have the same problem... Is there any way to replace the "Ship To" with the "Project" field?
Hello DP0123, It is not possible to rename the ship to the section you can only rename the middle section on the invoice(description, amount, quantity, etc) or the transaction type(invoice/estimate)to something else. The option you do have is using a custom field and naming it project but you would then have to manually enter the address each time.:smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:-Emma
I understand it's not possible to rename the field. My question is: somewhere in your organization you have programmers. Can you not get one of those programmers to tinker with the code so as to make the 'ship to' field a changeable title.
It shouldn't be so difficult.
We recognize your unique needs as this would benefit your business, GregMcPherson.
Your voice is important for us to ensure we give our customers the quality service they deserve. Rest assured. I’ll submit your feedback to our management team and your suggestion will help us identify the areas where we can improve our product.
In the meantime, just manually update the address from the Ship To column when creating the transaction.

'Unique' would imply I'm the singular only person on the planet with this need. I believe you'll find this not to be the case.
This is not a very helpful response. I agree with OP that this is not unique to just one person. It wouldn't be too much of an issue to create a custom template, but the problem with that is that QBO software isn't even intelligent enough to recognize the unique fields. QBO is quite useless for a business that doesn't ship products or provides services for multiple individuals in different locations. Quite disappointing.
We're an electrical contractor company with the same issue. Sales and installation is done at different project locations often for the same customer.
We resorted to using 1 of the 3 available custom fields on forms as 'Job Location'. The good is, unlike 'ship to', the field can be used in reports to, for instance, see all the work done at specific locations. The bad is it's limited to like 25 characters so we've resorted to street address only and truncated when too long. Manually entering it can lead to typos which requires even more time to manually track down and fix. And you still end up needing 'ship to' for proper sales tax anyway.
We're now attempting to use quickbooks built in 'location' field which has to be enabled in the settings. The good is there is no character limit, locations get saved in a drop down menu for future reuse, and they can be used in reports. The bad is, there's no way to include the location field on customer forms so we're still forced to use 'Job Location' custom field as detailed above, and it can't be used for sales tax so we're still forced to use 'ship to'.
It's lame. How are service companies and contractors handling this?
This is not a unique problem at all!
Not unique at all. I have had this complaint for years. QB sells it's product to contractors, how has this still not been remedied? So frustrating.
Thanks for joining this thread Jposkanzer, we agree it would be great to have the option to customise this wording to suit your business needs, and we'd urge if you haven't already to submit feedback for this within your account by going to the Cog > Feedback - this way it'll reach our developers who implement changes on a demand basis, so the more input we can get the better. :)
I agree, it is not very professional to have the field say "ship to" address when it is obviously a "service" address. In Quickbooks desktop I was able to change it, but not in Quickbooks Online. We are an HVAC contractor and are just putting up with it until I can take the time to do a custom template.
2022 and multiple people asking for the same issue to be updated which would likely take someone on your development team a whole hour at most to make this field editable but still not done.
Are we to expect this kind of customer service for simple tasks that would highly benefit a large amount of your service clients for ever?
Hi there, BBOURKE.
We haven't received an update from our Developer Team about changing the Ship to field on the invoice.
You may consider submitting a request about the feature that you want. Here's how to send feedback within your QuickBooks Online company file.
Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QuickBooks.
If there are new functions, they'll post them via our Firm of the Future website. You can browse this guide and check the latest: QuickBooks Online new features and improvements—February 2022.

This thread started over three years ago and you haven't "haven't received an update from our Developer Team".
What does that say?
I need the "ship to" changed to "location" for Tax purposes. I know I can put the address in there, but I'd like the software to say "location", that makes more sense on our reports as well.
Don't hold your breath. We have been asking Quickbooks to change this for years and they never will.
Is there other software that will allow you to do this? I find it an absolute pain.. Been on desk top for years and loaded my files to QBO but have to spend hours re styling my invoices that were fine on desk top! I do not ship anything I work in different locations and have to invoice clients for different location ie "site address"
I will dump it if there is a better service else where
