ive submitted last quarters VAT return but have just realised it ended at 31st august and i have only done the bank transactions till around the 20th august, i have since done the transactions , will they be put onto the next quarter (1st sept onwards) automatically or have i lost some vat?
thanks
Hi kwaghorn,
I'm here to help include the rest of the August transactions.
As you have already filed the VAT return, the remaining transactions will not be carried over to the next quarter. What we can do is unfile the VAT and then refile it again.
To unfile the VAT, go to the Taxes tab, then select VAT. Select View Return for the period you wish to unfile. Then, follow the onscreen instructions to continue to unfile.
Once done, you can now refile it again.
Moreover, If you need to recreate the exceptions, you'll need to do this manually and refer back to the exception report. You can go over this article to do so: VAT exceptions and reports in QuickBooks Online.
I am available at all times to assist you with any concerns or questions you may have regarding VAT.
thanks for reply , when i click on view return all i get is , print or done ?
thanks
Hi there, @kwaghorn. I'll route you to our support that best handles this situation.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), only accountants can unfile VAT returns. Also, you can only perform this process for returns that are Marked as filed or Rejected in the program. That said, you're unable to unfile those returns that precede successful submissions. To further know what things you need to consider when unfiling a VAT return, read this link: How to unfile a VAT return in QuickBooks Online.
If verified that you meet the criteria for unfiling a return and you are still unable to do so, I recommend reaching out to our Phone support team for additional guidance in performing the process. Here's how:
I also include this helpful resource that you can use as a guide in case you encounter any issues while submitting VAT return: Submit a VAT return to HMRC using MTD in QuickBooks Online.
The Community is always open if you have other concerns about unfiling your VAT return in QuickBooks. Ensuring your success is my top priority.
