Take control of your business finances at QuickBooks Connect

2 min read

At this year’s QuickBooks Connect in Melbourne, we have an all-star line-up of guest speakers and industry leaders who will be sharing their business secrets. In addition to the main stage, we’ve put together myriad breakout sessions, carefully designed to help you take your business to the next level. We sat down with one of our presenters, Kane Munro from Accountancy Online, to find out more about his upcoming QBC masterclass on nailing your business finances.

Tell us a little bit about you and your business

The main reason that I got into accountancy was to help small business people like my parents. My father is a carpenter who worked for the best part of 40 years as a sole trader. Now I get to help sole traders and small businesses (including his), all the way up to large businesses employing hundreds of people.

After working for mid-tier and big four accountancy firms for 15 years, I decided to start my own firm, Accountancy Online. We started five years ago with the idea that we could provide a more proactive solution to small businesses than they were used to receiving from their accountants.

We have since grown to 15 staff and are currently a full service accounting firm. The fact that I get to help people starting out in business to be successful is what gets me out of bed every morning with a smile!

You’ve been to QuickBooks Connect before – what did you enjoy the most?

QuickBooks Connect was a great place to listen and learn from industry leaders and peers. It’s an extremely classy event that is fast-paced and unbelievably well organised.

What are you looking forward to at QuickBooks Connect 2019?

The ability to mingle with small business owners, bookkeepers and accountants all in one place is pretty unique. When you throw into the mix a line-up of top-notch speakers, you’ve got an event to remember.

You’re one of the speakers at this year’s event. Can you give us a sneak peek of your presentation?

I’m really looking forward to sharing my years of experience and discussing financials with small businesses. I’ll be covering the mistakes most failed businesses make and give tips about better managing your cash flow.

I can guarantee this will be a lighthearted session with a few laughs, but we will also be giving small business owners the tools they need to understand what makes their business tick.

What’s one thing you hope people will take away from your presentation?

I hope small business owners will come away with the confidence to tackle their finances head-on!
