It's quite unbelievable QuickBooks have not fixed this problem yet, QuickBooks Desktop had everything a lot of companies used, by not providing a replacement, like for like, they're just losing paying customers.
@ Meg3 what is the software you're using for sales orders/inventory etc.?
We also went to Zoho for this very reason. It's funny because I suggested to Zoho technical support about adding a feature and they did it within a week. Quickbooks would have taken 10 years. On top of that our customers ended up liking the customer portal on Zoho much better.
I strongly agree. We've helped many clients converting their data to Zoho for the same reason.
Is there any update to this?
Hello there,
Currently, this is unavailable in QBO. As we value your suggestions, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team. Here's how to send feedback:
Our product engineers will consider your suggestions, and you can always check the status of your request through this link: QuickBooks Online Customer Feedback.
In the meantime, you may consider looking for a third-party application. You can use this page to find an app that meets your business needs. QuickBooks Apps.
I've added this article for future reference on how to convert an estimate into an invoice: Convert an estimate into an invoice in QuickBooks Online.
For additional QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here in the Community. We're always available and willing to lend a hand to your queries. Have a great day ahead.
QuickBooks is not meant to be a project management software, although they have built a system for it. That works 'good enough'. QuickBooks spent a lot of money several years ago to help application builders to develop apps for their customers' needs that QBO does not have. Yet they do continue to build more and more into the QBO environment pretty much daily. After using DT for 17 years and Online for 6 years. I am an expert in both systems and have come to prefer the online version due to the time saving factors. But if you are not willing to spend the money on a good accounting infrastructure, you're not going to thrive nor save time with the admin part of your business. Meaning you should get a project management system if that is what you need.
I see that this Sales Order "need" is not a new thing. We just converted from Sage on my accountant's recommendation but this lack of Sales Order is going to be a real headache.
We get annual purchase orders from customers (which would be our Sales Orders) for items. Using a Sales Order function allows us to see how many of a particular item is remaining to be delivered and if a new order is needed. I don't think using the estimate as a workaround for sales order will accomplish this inventory control.
Could we just find out if this in the works at least and a timeframe? If QB is just going to ignore this feature, I will find somewhere else to go. It would just be nice to know if they are hearing us or not?
I know how significant a sales order feature having is to easily deduct the inventory items and control them in the program, @tsargentjr. Let me provide some details about this matter.
Our Product Development team hears and values all your product suggestions and requests, and they're diligently working to improve your experience in QuickBooks. Thus, I recommend sending feedback to help emphasize its significance and to demonstrate the collective urgency of this matter. You can also track your request through our QuickBooks Online Feature Request page.
Moreover, we can't provide a specific time frame for when this feature will be available as our development team is still working on the program's updates.
In the meantime, you might consider using another sales order management third-party app to help you manage your sales orders. You can follow the steps below for your reference:
Furthermore, you can set up your inventory tracking to help you easily track your inventory items.
Don't hesitate to reach us if you have other Questions about managing your inventories or have any concerns about QuickBooks. We'd here ready to lend you a hand.
Use a 3rd party inventory management app with SO feature to integrate with QBO is the workaround for the time being.
Has there been an update for Sales Orders in QBO for 2024?
Hello there, @GWNWUPDF.
At the time being, we can't provide the exact time frame as to when our Product Development Team implement the Sales Order for QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, we assure you that our engineers are reading your recommendation for the program.
Also, you may follow the steps shared by my colleague JuliaMikkaelaQ to look for a third-party app and send feedback to our Product Development Team to improve your experience in QuickBooks Online. For more details, see this link: How do I submit feedback?
For updates about newly added features available on specific subscriptions inside QBO, you can check this page: QuickBooks Blog.

Just absolutely ridiculous QBO doesn't integrate sales orders for a wholesale and or manufacturing package. Do the "programmers" understand how selling inventory goods works? Just a slap in the face of us longtime, loyal customers.
If you are manufacturing company, you should have a manufacturing app to integrate with QBO. If you are a wholesaler, use the inventory management app as I mentioned earlier. Otherwise, switch to QB Desktop or another accounting app with the sales order feature.
We have desktop but from what I understand they're ending it. We have had no need for outside apps you mention over the last 20 years that's why we use QB. Why are you defending such a stupid move by QB? Premier Desktop has worked perfectly for tracking sales orders and creating Invoices from the S/O and we use the S/O's to manage backorders and blanket orders.
We have desktop but from what I understand they're ending it.
You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Premier Plus and they will support it until 2027.
My bad. I didn't see the flag. QB Desktop 2024 is not available for UK version.
You can still use QB Desktop UK version with a non subscription license + MTD Bridging app if required.
