Hi digitalgerry1, that's right, you'll need to register for MTD and wait for email confirmation of your registration from HMRC after completing this before connecting in QuickBooks - thanks for providing the link above for other customers in the same boat :woman_technologist:
Thanks for joining us here, @Brian P.
Currently, we have an ongoing issue where users aren't able to reauthorize MTD. Rest assured our engineers are diligently working for the fix.
As a workaround, disconnect MTD from the settings then go to the website and remove the authorization for QuickBooks. This will refresh the connection. Let me walk your through how.
After removing authorization, go back to your QuickBooks account and reconnect MTD. Please refer to this guide for details: Submit a VAT return in QuickBooks Online.
Also, to ensure you'll get an update about the resolution status, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support. This way, you'll get added to the list of affected users and provide this investigation number for easy tracking INV-52746.
Thank you for your patience while we work on for a permanent fix. Please post a reply if you still have other questions or concerns. I'll be around to help. Take care and stay safe.
I have been in the same situation for over a week now, when is the problem likely to be resolved please. Vat return deadline is 14 days away!
Hello there, @sanchia.
I've checked our records and found out that the investigation number INV-52746 is already tagged as resolved. Since you’re still experiencing the same problem, I recommend contacting our QBO Care Team.
Identifying the root cause requires tools like screen-sharing, which can only be performed by our chat/phone support. Once the solution is available, they’ll guide you through the steps on how to fix the issue.
If other users are experiencing the problem, they can open a ticket for further investigation. To contact support, tap on Contact us from the Help menu.
In the meantime, you can follow the workaround shared by my colleague to disconnect the MTD from the settings.

Reach out to me if you have any other concerns or questions about QBO. I’m always ready to answer them for you. Stay safe.
This doesn't work either. Can't believe I pay £30 a month for this rubbish. Accounting was easier when I didn't have this software. It's a complete rip off.
This isn't the experience we want to give, jwarbs26.
There's currently an on-going investigation about the issue. What you can do for now is access the re-authorisation page by pasting "/app/tax/mtd?&errorCode=OAUTH_ERROR&eFilingStatusCode=27" into the URL after "intuit.com".
I'd also recommend contacting our Customer Care Team to add your company information to the list of affected users.
Here's how:
If you have the new QuickBooks Assistant help update, you can follow these steps:

Please feel free to get back here if you have any additional question or other concerns. I'm here to provide assistance.
Hi jwarbs26
I had the same problem and found the solution lay in the HMRC software and not the QB software. I was pointed at this by another user accounts418 who wrote:
"Accounts418 here. I never did get any help from QB on this. I have resolved myself, however. A colleague of mine who has a higher HMRC access than I have logged in for me. From there I selected Manage Account, Account Access, Give a team member access to a tax, duty or scheme. On that page there were 3 headings for me. Under the Submit VAT Returns heading, I selected Manage Team Members and noticed that there was no tick against my email address. I ticked this box and was immediately able to Prepare my VAT Return when I logged back into QB. What I don't know is whether or not this box was ticked prior to the re-authorisation process. Anyway, good luck!"
I logged into HMRC with administrator authority and followed the above and it solved the problem. I have now submitted my VAT returns. Good luck.
I’m also having this problem. Very frustrating as my VAT filing date is fast approaching. I found that my VAT quarter dates had been adjusted by the system which maybe related?
Having moved from a QB desktop version which we were very satisfied with, it says a lot about “progress” that the new is vastly inferior to the old.
Also, “talk to a human” is a bit rich. It’s a person on the end of an online “chat”. Very slow and very inefficient.
I've just received my VAT n umber and initially all was good but next day I am getting the same message
Let’s check a few things out to get you back on track.
I am using QB from my accountant and intend to do my own returns, do they have to authorise something as my agent?
Best wishes
Was that at your accountant end or someone in HMRC?
Hi there, digitalgerry1.
To submit VAT returns to HMRC for MTD, let's first enable the MTD. Then, you'll have to authorise QuickBooks first to interact with HMRC. Here's how:
Once MTD has been enabled in QuickBooks. Follow the steps below:
Then, you will receive a 'You're connected to HMRC' message as below. Click Continue. When the process has been completed, click on Take a look.

Hi
Thanks, but I've done all that AND also disconncteed the MTD and HMRC authroisations and reconnected.
I really want this resolved ASAP as newly set up and I do NOT want to be doing this manually.
I should have also said I seem to be stuck on the page ' Just a few things to check"
I;ve not had any email from HMRC - i will contact them tomorrow but it refers to error code CLIENT_OR_AGENT_NOT_AUTHORISED
I’ve got you covered, @digitalgerry1.
I understand how precious time is for you. I also appreciate the effort trying to get the issue resolved.
Since you’re still unable to connect HMRC, it would be best to contact our Technical Support team to investigate this further. They can check what causes the issue and able to provide a fix immediately. You can follow the steps below to get in touch with our representative:

d several times to get the "human" help and nothing happens.
Hi digitalgerry1, HMRC are currently experiencing issues with their online servers which is preventing successful submission of CIS and VAT returns in QuickBooks, and may present the message 'We can't connect to HMRC right now' on the taxes screen. Please click the link here to monitor for updates on this, and try connecting when there are fewer/no reported issues.
Thanks!
Turns out the issue IS NOT the connection to HMRC it is a mTD registration which has to be done before you connect. So just ticking the nTD without appying and receiving a confirmatory email is what the issue ue.
To resolve to to gov.uk/HMRC search for "VAT book keeping" and select sign up to MTD its the 4th or 5th down in the list and then follow the instructions, you'll receive an email in 3 days, then this error will go, as the authorisation is then made to you the cutomer.
