Change scheduled pay date

As we approach another payroll year, is there yet any way to change the pay date on an existing payroll schedule? We changed our pay day a year ago but QB still shows the old date and thinks payroll is overdue when it's not paid on that day...

Yes, I have clicked the cog and given feedback, several times!

(This is QBO standard payroll)

Change scheduled pay date

Hi richard96,

The only way to do this would be to create a new pay schedule and then create the employees as new (with the same payroll ID) and assign the new pay schedule to each. 🙇‍:female_sign:

Hello Richard,

Welcome to the Community page,

If you have a look at this article here it tells you how to edit a pay schedule in standard payroll.

If you are wanting to set up multiple pay schedules if you have a look at this link here it tells you all about what to do.

Thanks but they only work if you've never run a payroll. The article says:

"After you run your first payroll in QuickBooks, you won't be able to make changes to the pay schedule unless you delete the entire payroll."

I might test that option before the new year starts! Will there be anyway to delete/deactivate the old pay schedule though, otherwise I'll still get the reminders that the pay run is 'overdue'?

Thanks for getting back in here, @Richard9. Let me chime in and provide some details about the payment schedule in QuickBooks Standard Payroll.

Before you delete a payment schedule, ensure you don’t have any employees assigned to it. You'll have to reassign the employee to a different pay schedule first.

Here's how to delete the pay schedule:

  1. Go to the Settings ⚙ menu and then choose Payroll Settings.
  2. In the Payroll and Services section, click Pay Schedules.
  3. Choose Edit next to the payment schedule you want to update or delete.
  4. Click Delete to remove it.

Additionally, here's an article you can read to learn more about the features in QuickBooks Online Payroll: Standard Payroll Hub.

Keep in touch if you have further issues with payroll in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help more. Have a nice day.

Once an employee has been paid. it's not possible to reassign them from their existing pay schedule to a new pay schedule.
