Hello Everyone

 

There has been a new release put through the mac app it should ask you to install an update today. If you can follow that instruction. It should mean you no longer get this issue with the app staying signed in. If anyone is still then getting this issue please let us know

If you are using the QuickBooks Online mobile app, the system is designed to require you to enter your username and password every time you log in for security purposes. These features are available on the gadget or application your logging into.

 

If you are using the QuickBooks Online Windows app, make sure you've checked the Stay Signed In box in the sign in page. To help fix the problem, it'll be a good idea to uninstall and reinstall the application.

  • The issue is with the desktop app. Yes, I check the stay signed in.  
  • I uninstalled the desktop app as MirriamM suggested but now can find the download.

I've got the link for you to download the QuickBooks Online Windows app, dale-steinkuehle.

 

Just open this link to start the process https://quickbooks.intuit.com/apps/. Then, click the Free Download button towards the bottom under the Get the QuickBooks Mac or Windows App section.

When the download is complete, you can check to see in your home screen the QuickBooks icon shortcut.

Hi Dale,

 

You will normally be asked to log in if you have been signed in on another device or directly in the browser. This could be due to your device remembering sign in info. Have you been logged on elsewhere?

We just need to check a few things with you if that is okay. What is the default browser linked to the desktop app?Do you have the passwords usually saved in the browser?Do you have the browser set to auto clear the cache after every shut down?Have you installed any updates for the computer itself recently?

It is the QBO Desktop App.  There is no browser. 

 

Since the update on 3/18/19, I am asked to enter the password every time I start the app.

The Desktop App runs from whatever the default browser is within your device, which is why my colleague asked the above questions. We are not aware that this was something changed in the update, so we are trying to get to the bottom of why this is happening.

I looked into this and we don't currently have open investigations similar to your concern. Let ’s perform some basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. First, check if your computer meets the QuickBooks Online app requirements for Windows

 

This will ensure the application is compatible with your setup and will help avoid problems when using it. If your computer meets the required specifications, let's refresh your QuickBooks.

 

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Choose Reset App Data.

If you continue to get the same result, uninstall and reinstall the application to start in a clean slate. I'll guide you through the process.

 

To remove:

 

  1. Drag the QuickBooks Windows app from the Applications folder to the Trash icon.
  2. Go to Finder, then choose Empty Trash.

To install:

 

  1. In your browser, enter this link: http://quickbooks.intuit.com/apps/.
  2. Scroll down to Get the QuickBooks Mac or Windows App section, click on Free Download.
  3. Click Download Now.
  4. Select the QuickBooks.dmg file in the downloads section.
  5. Drag QuickBooks to the Applications folder.
  6. Launch the QuickBooks App.

These steps should get you pointed in the right direction.

I just tried resetting the app data, and it did not fix the problem.

 

As for the OS compatibility, this is a MacOS machine that has a later version of the OS than your Systems Requirements indicates (10.14 vs 10.11). Just the same, it has worked fine for years until the last week or two.

 

I deleted the QB application from the Applications folder, and then reinstalled from the DMG at the provided link. Same result.

 

Can you recommend something else to try?

Yes I've always had my creditials saved, and the only time the app has made me login, to this point, is when there's been an update.  After this last update it just continues to ask for my login info.

It is possible that any saved settings in the browser have reset themselves as this happens when you uninstall or reset the app can you go into your saved settings on the browser and check if you have intuit in there?

If settings disappear as a result of application reset, I would expect the application would reassert necessary settings on the next execution and then work properly on subsequent executions.

 

Is there a particular cookie or other setting we should search for or examine?

Can you try in Safari,going to preferences and then clicking on the passwords tab,double click the password field hold down the command key and select intuit if you can then click the remove button and then click the add and add back in intuit with url username and password. Can you then test if this works and let us know if it then pre fills in these details when you sign back into the app

My use case is with Chrome as my default browser, and I do not (never have) store passwords in Chrome (or Safari). I think it would be helpful to engage an engineer who understands how authentication works in the QBO application.
