Migrating for desktop 2012

Hi.  I have been using 2012 desktop for many years and now have to move to online which is a great shame.  However on restoring an essential but historic company file (required for legal reasons) the programme is now asking for an administrator password which we have never set up.  The utilities from QB to reset the password do not work.  I tried setting up a new company which went ok until it was reopened and again, it is asking for the administrator password.  Two other businesses continue to operate without issue in the same programme. Does anyone have any idea how to proceed please?

I'll help you get back on the course of your data migration process in QuickBooks, Nigel.

If you're having trouble resetting your QuickBooks Admin password, there is a tool called the Automated Password Reset that you can utilize to reset it in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This tool is designed to reset the QuickBooks Admin password in versions 2008 through 2019 of QuickBooks. Check out this article for detailed guidance: Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop.

It's important to note that your password reset form information must match your primary contact and address on your Integra account.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Live Support Team. They possess the essential tools to examine your account and help you with the process of transferring your data.

Moreover, when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), you might notice some changes in the appearance of your books. Read this article to better understand which features and what data will be migrating in QBO: Find out how your books will move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

You can always rely on me for the necessary resources and details about managing data in QuickBooks. If there's anything else you need to ask, kindly hit the Reply button below. Keep safe.

Hi.  The password reset tool has been tried and failed.  This is a UK product where support has seemingly been withdrawn despite my paying in full for the desktop product.  When you try and use the reset it simply will not accept a UK postcode and you are blocked out!

Hi.  The problem is that we cannot access the data because of the requirement for an admin password that we have not set and just appeared from no where.  We cannot reset the password because the reset tool does not seem to work in the UK and Quickbooks does not support the product anymore in the UK (Q pro 2012 desktop).

We need to access the file, use it and then we can upgrade.  How do we get around the password issue is the question?

Allow me to provide additional information on this, Nigel. I understand how important it is to access your files, let me route you to our contact support to help you reset your password.

Since QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is no longer supported in the UK, only our support team can access your account due to security reasons. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague above.

Additionally, you can check our article to learn how your books were moved from QBDT to QBO: Find out how your books will move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online

If you still have concerns about managing your password and migrating to QBO, don't hesitate to leave a comment. I'm always here to help.
