Remote access to company not allowing updates

Hello, i am working with QuickBooks Pro2018, the desktop version. For the past couple years we've utilized the remote desktop option so that my bookkeeper has full access to the books at any time. However, it seems that within that last month or two our payroll updates are not "sticking". I am constantly being asked to update to the latest version, when i do the update nothing is changes and i am again asked to update. I've had to manually calculate payroll taxes a couple times. 

Along with the payroll update issue, i have also encountered a "vital quickbooks updated is needed" message when i start the remote session. I have gone through the process of that update as well, and again nothing changes. According to the message i haven't updated for almost 50 days, which is not the case. 

Any ideas????

Let me help you sort this out, @Mandy0707.

 

When updating QuickBooks, ensure to do it on the device where QuickBooks is installed or on the server itself. 

 

First, let's make sure that your QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest version. Here's how to perform manual updates:

  1. Create a back-up copy of your company file.
  2. Close your company files and QuickBooks.
  3. Open the Windows Start menu.
  4. Search for QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator.
  6. While on the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks.
  7. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  8. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox.
  9. When you're ready, select Get Updates.

Once completed, let's close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop. This is to ensure that all components are updated. 

 

Now, let's manually update your payroll tax table. 

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu
  2. Choose Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Select the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  4. Click Download Latest Update.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have done everything you recommended prior to sending my previous message. The updates are still not showing up.

Thanks for confirming that you've already followed all the recommended troubleshooting, Mandy0707.

 

It's also possible that the update is blocked or not installed successfully in the server/computer where QuickBooks is saved. You'll want to access it and do the update from there.

 

If you're using a Hosting service, I recommend reaching out to them so they can allow the update. 

 

In case you're still getting the same message, I'd suggest reaching out to our phone support team. They'll take a closer look at this to determine what's causing the update to not show up in your company file. 

 

Here's how to reach out to them: 

 

  1. Go the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Let them know that you're having issues getting the update through a remote session.
  4. Click Continue, then select if you want to schedule a callback.
