Thanks for sharing this matter with us, noboots. I understand the convenience of placing the cursor on the Name field when you click Save and new. I'm here to help you.
Yes. It's ready for a new receipt even if the cursor doesn't place in the Name Field. If you want to enable this feature in future updates, you can send feedback to our product development team. This way, our product development team will get a great chance to know this and may add these feature enhancements in future updates.
Here's how:
You can visit our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website to track the status of your submitted feedback.

Thank you but this is a new issue that has suddenly appeared (or disappeared!). I doubt that giving 'Feedback' will have any effect - this needs to be fixed by tech?
I have also noticed this and it is a pain. You seem to have to double click as well. Only the last week this has started happening. I also notice that when I am raising an invoice now when I start entering the product/service code and it brings up options I use to be able to just tab but now I have to physically click on the code from the drop down box. I raise a lot of invoices with a lot of lines and it is taking forever. Has there been an update that has changed all of this?
Hi noboots and CarolB, thanks for reporting this to us. We appreciate such changes can cause frustration and an increase in data entry time. Can we check which web browser you use as your default for QuickBooks, and if this is also updated to the latest version? :)
Hi I use google chrome and yes it is up to date. It started sometime last week. It use to be that if I started putting in a product code it would either automatically bring up the code from what I was typing and I could then press tab and it would go to the next box or if there were options because several codes started like that I could arrow down all the options but it now does not anticipate what code I want I have to go down the options in the drop down box and physically click on in with my mouse. And when I go into putting an invoice or bill on it does not automatically start at the supplier/customer name you have to click on the box twice. It also does not anticipate what supplier/ customer I want wither I have to click on it in the drop down box. Thank you
HI
Yes I have this issue too ! driving me mad. I'm so use to having to click once, now i have to click twice . Sounds trivial but so frustrating . Only started last week
Hello CarolB and Mower2 , thanks for coming back to us, on this post and sharing this with us, we have passed this all on to the development team, again we appreciate such changes can cause frustration and an increase in data entry time.
This has just started for me too. Adds too much time.
Oh my days this is driving me mad now. It is taking me so long to raise invoices. I have to type in the full product code now exactly as i set it up (so case sensitive) and even if the drop down only brings up that one code(no other similar codes) and i press tab it still does not like it and then the box to set up a new code pops up. Then when I close that instead of going back to the product code box it jumps over to the next box. I hope this is sorted soon as driving me bonkers and I am ready to throw the computer out of the window. I so miss my Quickbooks Desktop
Has anyone looked at this issue ? any update ?
Hello Mower2, so QuickBooks has had an update and this is now how it works you can leave feedback about this but it is working as designed
Soooo agree re Quickbooks Desktop. Online version is sooo slow and as we can all see, fraught with problems.
I kept the desktop version as I refuse to pay extra for the pleasure of being able to check on stock levels..but it means I have to enter sales in two places!! Desktop is faster, more user friendly and doesn't disappear when the internet goes down!
QBs don't make it easy though - the main reason why I am reluctant to change my outdated computer is that it's almost impossible to transfer desktop QB :0(
So how do we leave feedback please. I don’t like how it does it now as it takes far too long to achieve anything. Surely this is not what intuit wanted to achieve. Thank you
Still not working...the cursor is not appearing automatically in the Name field??
Thanks for getting back here in the Community, @CarolB, and @noboots.
The option to automatically place the cursor on the name field after clicking the Save and New button is unavailable. I know how beneficial having this feature is to optimize your navigation and make your work easier. That said, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers. This way, they can further review your sales transaction form and determine the parts that need enhancements and consider adding them to future updates.
Here's how:
In case you need to make your sales form more personalised to reflect more of your business identity, you can follow the steps in this article: Customise invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have any other concerns managing your sales transactions in QuickBooks. Have a good one and stay safe.
They did this on purpose? It takes away a time saving feature and causes extra effort to post every vendor bill as well as in every line of every bill. What exactly did we gain for losing this?
This is not a solution? Several others are having the same issue and as we have all pointed out - this has only arisen in the last few weeks. It is not something for feedback - not a suggestion! - we are merely requesting that the system be repaired and returned to it's original state.
Mine seems to be back to how it should be today so maybe they have listened
This bug is back again ...
(at least, I hope it's not just me!)
With a bit of luck, this will be repaired quickly this time (the Intuit devs must know what the problem is since they created it in the first place!).
me too! hate this ... please revert to how it was. also why can't you just press enter to save and new OR save and close like it used to be on the desktop? seems like such simple fixes that simplify this crazy app
Here we are May 17, 2023 and I am still having this issue. It is so frustrating and time consuming to have to double click every single time. I sent feedback to QB but do not believe that will get me anywhere. Is anyone still having this issue ? It now takes me double the time to input vendor invoices simply because the curser will not appear back in the name field, ready to go!
Yes I am still having the issue and it’s driving me insane. Not only does the cursor not appear back up the top but I also have to double click on the product box before I start typing. So many times I have clicked once, started typing and then realised I need to click again as it’s not doing anything. This all seemed to work ok again after the blip a couple of months ago. That was corrected quite quickly but this time it seems to be being ignored
Allow me to dive into this thread to assist you with your concerns, @CarolB.
In creating your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You're right that you'll need to move the cursor to the name field to create another one. I understand how you wanted this option to be available to the product. Thus, I recommend posting your suggestions to our product development team by sending feedback.
Concerning the need to tap the name field multiple times to create another one. This is one of the unusual behavior in QBO that cease the product to perform well. In this, I'd recommend performing troubleshooting steps. These fixes get rid of typical issues that could make the application behave strangely, which limits QBO's ability to function.
To open an incognito window, you can follow these keyboard shortcuts:
Once done, please log in to your account to a regular browser. After that, I suggest deleting your browser cache to refresh the system. If the same thing happens, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can identify if this is a browser-integrated issue.
Furthermore, you can record your customer's invoice payments to complete and record them in your books.
Keep me posted if you have more concerns about managing invoices in QuickBooks. The Community always has your back. Stay safe!
Hi @RoseJillB
Thank you so much for diving in but, not unusually for QBTeam, you have hit upon an almost perfect combination of the things that boil the blood for those of us that use QBO & these forums.
(1) This is not functionality that would be nice to have or something that should be on a wishlist. Opening a new input window & having the first cell live & ready to accept input is basic functionality. It is User Experience 101 for the transatlantics. It is how things should be. In fact, it is how QBO DID work until some over-enthusiastic or under-skilled coder got to tinkering in the background & screwed it all up. How on God's Green Earth this wasn't picked up by Quality Control I cannot fathom.
(2) Feedback. Never in the history of QBO has any feedback led to any change or improvement. Prove me wrong - please.
In fact, when I click the feedback button it stalls the browser & I have to refresh (possibly due to 3rd party cookies being disabled - but since I know it won't make any difference, I don't bother trying to resolve or feedback!).
(3) So many QBTeam responses involve irrelevant information. Please, please read the full accounts before posting. The fact that the same (or similar) bug is being reported by multiple people should make it clear that this is not going to be fixed by clearing cookies or using Incog Mode.
Rant Over - but, from today I am going to post a new thread about this bug every few days until we get a response or it gets fixed. The development team have fixed it once, I'm sure they know what they've done!
