I have seen this question on several forums - but I can't find an answer that works. How can I generate an invoice / credit note without putting in an email address? I have tried the various solutions advised on the forums but so far none have worked (ie changing payment details to none or print later in the client account, using save and close instead of save and send).

Hi AJM0517.
Thanks for getting in touch.
When creating an invoice on QuickBooks Online you shouldn't need to enter an email address unless you are wanting to send this out to your customer. If you create the invoice and then click 'Save' or 'Save and Close' the invoice should save to your QuickBooks without needing an email address. The only thing you would need would be customer name. I have just tested this on my own QuickBooks Online account and it has allowed me to save the invoice without including an email address.
If you are getting an error message would you be able to send a screenshot of the page that is showing when you try to save without an email address.
Let me know and I will be back in touch shortly :)

Thank you very much! I don't know what I was doing before - but it is now working!
Hi @AJM0517!
Really pleased you had this resolved
I would love to know more about what you do! Are you self-employed/own a small business?
Neither! I'm just helping out a couple of charities both of whom use Quickbooks. I'm an ACA - but volunteering / studying at present.
Hi, @AJM0517
That's really interesting. What charities are they? Do they have social media or a website?
Hi am having the same problems using quickbooks for self employed and it wont let me create without email address
Hello and welcome to Community Martyn,
It is not possible to send invoices through Self Employed with out a E-mail address. One thing you could do is use a placeholder E-mail address to allow to save the Invoice so you can then print and E-mail manually.
You can leave feedback through this link which could result in added content or improved features in the future of QuickBooks Self Employed.
Hi there,
I managed to set up the invoices without emailing - using Ash H's instructions in the thread response to my question. Does that work for you? I did have to keep trying as the first few times it wouldn't work - just a glitch maybe.
Amanda
I'm glad to know it worked on your end, AJM0517.
You have the ability to save an invoice without an email in QuickBooks Online. Since @martyndrewitt76 is using the Self-Employed version, saving an invoice without an email is currently unavailable.
If ever you have any questions concerning your QuickBooks, please let us know. We'll be here to help.
why is this not possible? it seems like a very basic need for self-employed people. I'm having the same issue and its infuriating that I can't just create an invoice without having to email it. Sometimes I need to send an invoice to multiple parties in which its necessary for someone to approve the invoice within a group email chain. Which service am I supposed to use as someone who is self employed in order to be able to achieve saving an invoice without emailing it?
You can request this feature formally with our development team by filling in the information within this link - http://prod.atg.quickbooks.intuit.com/commerce/common/fragments/feedback.jsp
Our online product will allow you to create, and save an invoice without e-mailing it; but this is tailored more towards Small-to-medium businesses as opposed to self employed users, the feedback is your best bet for including it in the product you're using.
In these occasions, the advice i give to my customers is to put your own email address in the email box; that way you can just bulk-delete any you've sent to yourself, or, even better; you've got a further backed up copy of your invoices within your email account which you can archive - which is great if you ever have HMRC wanting copies of information.
Thanks,
I am having the same issue. When creating an invoice it will not let me save it without an email. It gives me 2 choices preview or save as draft when I click on either choice it says please enter a valid email address.
It’s great to see you in the Online Community, Merit Lawn.
Thanks for joining on this thread and providing a screenshot. I’m here to clarify about creating and saving invoices.
Currently, the option to save invoices without an email address in QuickBooks Self-Employed is unavailable. However, you can enter a dummy email address to keep the copy in your account.
While this feature is not yet available, I will send a product suggestion on your behalf to our Development Team. They love to your voice as well, so I suggest you let them know that adding more control on the Invoices page is important for your business.
Suggestions like this are helpful in identifying the features our clients want the most for consideration in future enhancements. You can submit them through here: Feedback.
This information should point you in the right path.
If you have additonal questions about QBSE, please post a comment below. I'll be around to help. Have a good one.
If you enter a dummy email address it appears on the invoice under 'Bill to' which not only looks unprofessional but confuses older clients i.e. those without email.
Hi nicktowyn,
I get your observation on the effect of adding a dummy email to invoices for clients without it. I'll be sure to pass this along to our product engineers, so they can create an option to save invoices with no email. In the meantime, you can enter yours, so you can save your invoices.
Please don't hesitate to reply to this thread if you need anything else.
I don't have save or save and close option. Just send! The invoice will not proceed without email address.
Hello icelectrical,
The option to save/save & close is only available on QuickBooks Online. Are you using the Self Employed product?
Thanks,
Talia
I tested quick books self employed last year. And found the features of not being able to save a invoice without an email very frustrating. There are so meany elderly that don’t have emails or customer that just pay by cash, has there been any headway in resolving this as yet? I am thinking of coming back to quick books?....
Thanks for trying out QuickBooks Self-Employed, Robc2478.
QuickBooks Self-Employed is a proficient application that allows you to communicate with your customers real-time thus, it needs their email addresses when creating the invoices. This allows your customers to know what invoices you've made for them.
If your customers don't have email addresses, you can use your email instead.
That would be the workaround while the option to save without the email address is not yet available. Rest assured that this feature request will be forwarded to our developers. I will personally send feedback about it too.

Is this true for Quickbooks self employed?
Hey lehmantruck,
You can save a draft invoice in QuickBooks self-employed but to mark this as paid you would need to send via email.
Thanks
Thank you, but you cannot safe a draft without entering the email address. I have customers that do not have an email and when I save, it forces me to enter my own email address. When I print the invoice after saving as a draft or PDF, it shows our email as the client's email.
Hi there, lehmantruck.
As mentioned by my colleagues above, you'll need to enter an email address to save an invoice in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).
If you don't want your own email address to show up on the invoice when printing, you may consider creating a dummy one, such as no@email.com or noemail@dummy.com.
I've attached some screenshots for reference.
I'm also linking some of our great resources about invoicing in QBSE:

It's so disheartening to read all these entries of people having the SAME problem my son is having. I told him I was sure we could find an answer online, yet all there is are workarounds, something he had already figured out. Come on QB.
