Open banking with HSBC - unable to proceed

Hi

I am trying to set up an open banking feed with HSBC but after the stage where I agree to Quickbooks accessing my HSBC data the system just stalls - its obviously trying to connect to HSBC but cannot get through. I called HSBC in case I needed to do something at that end but they were completely unfamiliar with the process. Can anyone help?  I haven't been able to manage my transactions for at least 6 weeks.

Thanks Denise

Hello, @DottyR.

Let's perform the following troubleshooting steps so you'd be able to connect your bank with QuickBooks.

  1. Ensure you’re able to login to your bank’s website.
  2. If you’re able to login successfully, kindly take note of the exact username and password you used.
  3. Log back into your QuickBooks Self-Employed account.
  4. Reconnect your bank account.
  5. Manually type in your bank’s login credentials inside QuickBooks.

You can read through these articles for more detailed instructions:

Keep me posted if you have other questions about connecting your bank account with QuickBooks Self-Employed. I'm always here to help.

Thanks for the reply. When I select HSBC from the list of banks and consent/agree to sharing of data, I just stall at the next stage – the site is trying to connect to partnerauth.platform.intuit.com but it just freezes. I can’t find anywhere to manually enter my details.

Hello DottyR,

Are you able to use a non-apple device to connect your bank in Quickbooks?

Thanks for getting back to me - I only use apple devices. Is there any way around this?

Hello DottyR,

Right if you don't have a non-apple device

the workarounds are:
Do an NVRAM reset (speak to apple support about that)
Reset the router
Use a different network
Use a non apple device

Can you try these one or more of these should then allow you to connect the bank once done.

Ive been having this same issue for 2 months, its nothing to do with Apple devices! Im on windows and have used numerous browsers and gone through troubleshooting etc several times.....the problem is with the quickbooks interface with HSBC!

Everytime I contact QuickBooks I just get told the engineers are working on it.... ! Very frustrating & poor service

I understand the urgency in getting the HSBC account to connect with QuickBooks, Bluebell.

In the meantime, let's manually download your transactions from your financial institution, then import them using a CSV file to keep your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account updated.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Imports.
  3. Click Import older transactions on the right for the account you want the transactions to belong to.
  4. Follow the instructions onscreen to finish importing your data.
  5. Select Import.

Once done, review and categorise your transactions to put them in your accounts. For the detailed steps, kindly visit this article: Create rules to speed up reviews in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

Thanks, ive been doing that already.

I just want someone to respond with an actual update instead of avoiding it.

Nobody can give an update on this issue, its been 2 months now! Just not good enough!

Hello. I have the same problem - my HSBC commercial card account no longer connects with qb and my VAT return is due. Please can I have an update. Would have made more sense to wait until opening banking worked ubiquitously before launching this 'feature'.

Thanks for joining us here, simon10.

Some accounts are no longer supported for Online Banking in the UK region due to Open Banking regulations. Rest assured that our engineering team is working closely with your bank to provide any other options.

In the meantime, you can download a CSV file of your transaction from your bank's website and import it in QuickBooks Self-Employed. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Imports.
  2. Click Import older transactions in the right-hand side of your HSBC account.
  3. Click Browse and look for the CSV file and click on it.
  4. Select Import.

Once imported, follow the steps in this article to categorize them: Categorize and edit transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I eventually got it working by connecting using my mobile rather than home  wifi.  Still not great but its a step forward!

Cool - did you get a 350 error previously?

Open banking with HSBC - unable to proceed

I have the steps you can perform to fix the error 350 when reconnecting your HSBC account to QuickBooks, @simon10

Here are the possible reasons you're getting the error 350:

  • The bank has stopped allowing the Open Banking connection.
  • You removed the QuickBooks’ permission to connect on the financial institution's website.
  • It's beyond 90 days since you last granted permission.

To help fix this, I'd recommend contacting your bank. From there, you'll need to provide the required consent for them to connect your bank account to the program. This way, you can file your VAT return to the HMRC. For more details, see Error 350 through this article: Open Banking Connection Errors

Once done, click the banner on the Banking page. Then, complete the re-authentication flow to grant QuickBooks' access to your bank for 90 days further.

After that, let's go the For Review tab. You can edit and categorise your bank transactions from there. It helps you ensure your financial records are accurate. For more information, visit this article: Categorising Bank Transactions

I'm always here to lend you a helping hand if you need anything else. Take care always. Stay healthy, @simon10

I have been trying to update my HSBC Bank and it keeps failing.  This has been happening for around 3 weeks.  This is extremely frustrating as I am currently finishing off my year accounts but need this update to be able to complete.  When will this be fixed.  I am not sure how to do the work around that I have read on this link previously.

I understand the importance of being able to connect your bank to QuickBooks Online, @Rightclean.

At this time, we haven't received updates from our engineering team to when this issue be fixed. However, rest assured that they're now looking into this more closely so they can get a resolution as quickly as possible. As suggested by colleagues above, you can prepare an Excel CSV file for your bank transactions and import them so they become available in QuickBooks.

For the detailed steps, check out this article: Add older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Post again if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!

Same old crap being told your engineers are looking into it.

This has been going on for months,

Quickbooks is not fit for purpose if I have to keep doing everything manually..

Do something and at least reply or call your customers with any updates.

Hello - any news on this 350 error problem?

I have an HSBC commercial card and have been unable to sync it to Quickbooks since March and my VAT is now due. Please can you advise?

If the answer is - 'download and import a CSV from HSBC' - do I need to be careful about importing transactions I already have inside QuickBooks, or will it be fine?

Open banking with HSBC - unable to proceed

Hello, @simon10

You can follow the steps provided by RaymondJayO in resolving error 350 with your HSBC Commercial Card.

If you’re still having an error after trying the steps provided by my colleague, I suggest adding these transactions to your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account through CSV file.

Here's how to add these transactions to your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account:

  1. Check which ones are already in QBSE so you don’t add duplicates.
  2. Go to your online banking account and export the transactions from there. Set the date range for at least one day before the oldest transaction in the account in QuickBooks.
  3. Go back to your QBSE account and now import these transactions.

Check this article for detailed guidance: Add older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed. From here, you can now categorise your transactions

I'm always here if you still have questions about your bank transactions. Take care and have a wonderful day!

But I spoke to a colleague of yours on the phone and they told me it is down to new open banking rules?

Which is it?

Is there any point in me faffing around going through more pointless exercises - when it's not going to work anyway?

Please can you confirm (I have an HSBC Commercial Card)

Also, please can you let me know when / if this will be resolved? Someone must know something

In the mean time I will attempt to import a CSV:

  1. Check which ones are already in QBSE so you don’t add duplicates.

LOL - this is not very helpful! It kind of 'skims' over quite a bit of manual work....

This is not what we want you to feel, @simon10.

Rest assured, our engineering is aware of this and are working to fix this as soon as possible. In the meantime, you'll want to import your transactions to your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account. You can refer to the steps provided by colleague MaryJoyD above.

While we don't have a specific time frame as to when this will be resolved, I recommend contacting our Support Team. This way, they'll add you to the list of affected users and be notified via email of any news and updates. To reach them in your QBSE, you can follow these steps:

  1. Click Assistant.
  2. Type Talk to a human.
  3. Then select your preferred way to get in touch with them (Message an agent, Call an agent, or Get a callback).

You can also check this article for more details: Contact QuickBooks Self-Employed Support.

Also, do check our Banking page for future reference. From there, you can read some great articles that can guide effectively in managing your bank feeds.

We appreciate your patience while we're working to fix this. In case you have other concerns or questions. You can always get back to me. I'm always here to back you anytime. Take care and keep safe!
