OK, after a day yesterday of grappling with HSBC issues and finding out that Quickbooks is insistent on me having a mobile phone to verify identity (what [Removed] would want a mobile phone on at their desk when at home with a landline??? This [Removed] verification [Removed] needs to stop and QB cannot force me to use a mobile phone), now I have a new issue in that I cannot download Paypal transactions without downloading a mixture of two separate PayPal accounts I have (yes really!). I cannot try it in a new browser as it wants to send a code to my mobile to verify my identity first and I live in an area with no mobile signal, so cannot try that, but after opening an incognito window, it does the same thing. I have now abandoned my entire vast return and will make sure I get rid of QB asap and tell everyone to avoid it also.
I have now wasted an entire day, cannot call QB until Tuesday and when I do, I am going to give you a huge price of my mind and change BOTH my accounts as clearly your system is no longer fit for purpose and I now have a pending VAT return to squeeze into a week as your system is useless, let alone your bizarre obsession with someone owning a mobile phone. [Removed] !!! Useless [Removed] too.
Hi there!
We appreciate and have taken notes of your feedback with regards to our verification process. Please know that this process is an additional way of protecting our customer's information, and helps us make sure that all log in attempts are done by the authorized user.
Let me share this article with you to get more details on why we added this extra layer of security:

I don't use a mobile phone and never intend to. You cannot force people to use something which has a proven negative health effect, to protect MY OWN accounts. You need to offer different ways for this dumb verification procedure. For those of us on the front line, I am having to deal with over 20 verification procedures daily...has anyone used their brains to imagine what this does to work flow??? If you cannot provide any other method of verification other than mobile phone, then I am going to seek legal advice over your discrimination. Only morons use mobile phones as they are too slow to research the health effects of why it is damaging their health. I am not a moron. Why on earth would I be sitting beside a mobile phone emitting radiation that causes oxidative damage and single and double strand DNA breaks, all to jump through your stupid verification procedure hoops? When we are on LOCKDOWN, what moron would need a mobile phone on anyway!! They are for idiots that need to communicate when out, not a sensible person sitting at a PC working.
Furthermore, due to failed bank feeds, I have now wasted over 20 hours of my own time trying to do accounts for TWO businesses that I currently use Quickbooks for. I have sent my accountant an email explaining that Quickbooks is not fit for purpose. I tried to download Paypal yesterday and no matter how many times I did this, the stupid feed showed BOTH my Paypal accounts combined even though I only entered the correct details. This is a very worrying and disturbing breach pf my OTHER Paypal account and is unacceptable. Would you like to pay me for my wasted time? I am going to speak to my accountant about changing from Quickbooks as you are forcing people to use mobile phones to protect their OWN account and I will NEVER use a mobile, but also your stupid system does not work. I do not want to waste any more time on Quickbooks when you cannot even get the basics correct but are more concerned with my 'security' AND NOT YOUR SYSTEM.
Would you like to pay any fine I get for handing in my vat return late? My wasted time? I can no longer recommend Quickbooks at all and will be asking my accountant for an alternative. How dare you waste so much of my time? Useless!!!!!!
@youareuseless LOL - you appear frustrated !
I don't use mobile for verification - go to your account settings and put in your landline number or an email address and use that method instead !
Hope this helps
Stay safe
Hi PoshPorter :waving_hand:, Thanks for providing your method of what you use, @youareuseless if you don't like the method that is being provided with the security you could look into your banking settings with Paypal and change the method to something that will suit yourself. Regarding Paypal and having issues connecting the second account, this is something that we're aware of and are working to resolve the issue, I appreciate this may be frustrating and as a workaround for the second PayPal account please use CSV file uploads. Thanks
Thank you. Yes, I think the issue is that I have once used a mobile so now cannot change my password as it wants to send a code to my mobile even though I have entered verification with landline. After speaking with Quickbooks, they could not help me as they cannot remove a mobile number without adding another!
It seems that we are all being forced into a high-tech world and yet it is killing the planet. I run an ethical business and am trying to avoid contributing to the damage that our tech causes, but all these new laws are pushing us to use even more tech. I will continue to fight it and raise awareness where I can, before we all realise we have no bees left to pollinate our food.
Thank you for your feedback. I was intensely frustrated as I have had to spend 3 times as long as usual on every single VAT return since late last year due to various technical issues with these feeds, and have not managed to complete a vat return without feed issues since last year! I have two businesses and therefore 8 VAT returns a year to complete, so all of this is affecting me considerably and I have had to give numerous weekends to resolve.
I realise you did not pas these new laws but it would be great if the reporting of issues was more intuitive. I kept being told to 'come back later' and yet nothing changed no matter how patient I was! As a consequence to losing all feeds, I also lost all rules set up and could not even use rules for PayPal due to missing info from the file that is usually present on the feed.
Thankfully I don't need to do a vat return this month but am very behind on other work as a result of this nightmare and soon will have to start the next round of VAT all over again!
However last month's VAT return was the worst ever due to multiple repeating transactions which has left my 'excluded' tab looking like a novel when I finally abandoned it and resorted to upload.
I know my accountant finally complained himself also, as an influential partner with yourselves. We had soldiered along quietly but in the end, felt forced to complain as neither of us could do our jobs. Hopefully this issue will get sorted in the end and remain sorted.
Hello there,
Thanks for sharing your in-depth thought about the mobile phone verification. As mentioned in this thread, Intuit is committed to securing your information by providing advanced security tools and systems.
Aside from the text or voice call, you also have the option to send codes via email. You can visit again this link: Verify your account with multi-factor authentication for more details.
On the other hand, QuickBooks allows you to connect multiple PayPal accounts. Just make sure they have different login credentials.
On your bank feeds, the Update button won't update your PayPal transactions. You'll need to go to the Banking menu. Transactions processed through PayPal appear in the For Review tab within 2 hours. The app updates every 15-30 mins.
If you don't see them yet, It's always recommended to disconnect and reconnect the app so you have the option to select a past date. Check out the Connect to PayPal FAQ page for more details. It provides answers to common PayPal questions.
We'll keep you posted once there's an update from our Product Team about the issue with your PayPal bank feeds.
Thank you. However, I cannot change my password even though I have given a landline number and email address as may main verification and have explained quite clearly what is going on here. I have been told by Quickbooks helpline that they cannot remove my mobile number without replacing it with a new one and therefore cannot change my password, which is the ONLY issue I have.
I can verify my login with email or landline. This is NOT the problem, as I have explained twice already. I want to change my password but the system insists that it wants t send a code to my mobile as its a big deal security-wise and therefore I am left unable to ever change my password. I am losing the will to ever type this same scenario again!
By the way, there is not a solution to this according to Quickbooks in allowing me to remove a mobile number without replacing it with a new one, so I cannot mark this query as solved at all, but no need to keep responding as we are not getting anywhere with it! I was told by Quickbooks telephone support that this matter was raised in not being able to remove a mobile number unless you replaced it with a new one. I can get in to use Quickbooks but cannot change password as I have an old mobile number registered in there and once that is given, only a new mobile number can replace it. I presume that others can change their password by using email or landline to verify if they have never entered a mobile number ever, but for me, the fact that I once had a mobile and do not now, is proving to be an issue as there an assumption that mobile phone users will never revert to being non-mobile phone users!
