What VAT schemes are supported in QuickBooks for Making Tax Digital?
QuickBooks supports all complex VAT schemes including standard, flat and cash rate VAT schemes through our Making Tax Digital VAT Bridging Software. Flat rate is coming soon.
Which plans are Bridging Software available in?
Bridging is available QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essential & Plus. Should you ever decide to record all of your VAT transactional data in one place. All other QuickBooks features can be used at any time when you’re ready to migrate the rest of your accounts data.
What do I need to use the Bridging feature?
All you need is to sign up to QuickBooks, authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC and upload a spreadsheet document that contains your 9 Box VAT summary. The QuickBooks software will walk you through the steps to review your MTD compliant VAT return submission.
When did Making Tax digital start?
Making Tax Digital for VAT starts came into effect on 1st April 2019. Any VAT returns submitted on or after this date must follow the Making Tax Digital rules.
Who does Making Tax Digital for VAT impact?
Our MTD for VAT software including Bridging Software is available now for Small Businesses through QuickBooks Online Essentials & Plus.
When will QuickBooks’ Making Tax Digital for VAT software be available?
It impacts most VAT registered businesses with a taxable turnover above the VAT threshold (currently £85,000) in the 12 months leading up to 1st April 2019 or any 12 month period thereafter.
How do I comply with Making Tax Digital for VAT?
To comply with Making Tax Digital for VAT you will need to do all of the following for all VAT Returns starting on or after 1st April 2019: Keep your VAT records digitally Submit your VAT return to HMRC through MTD compliant software By April 1st 2020, you will also need to digitally link the accounting software you use for VAT preparation and filing if you use more than one software solution.

QuickBooks Making Tax Digital for VAT software is available to all QuickBooks Simple Start, Essential and Plus subscribers. Use of QuickBooks MTD for VAT software and bridging software must be aligned with HMRC's eligibility requirements and includes additional set up between the small business and HMRC.
QuickBooks MTD software currently supports Standard, Cash and Flat Rate schemes. QuickBooks Bridging Software supports Standard and Cash schemes. Annual submissions are not currently supported but will be coming soon. Businesses whose home currency is not GBP are currently not supported.
