I can't update QB (desktop 2010 version) and get error 12007. Any help?

Hi there, @info224,

It's nice to have you here today. I can share some insights about the error message you're getting when updating QuickBooks.

You'll normally get this error when the program is unable to connect with the internet, using incorrect browser and incompatible security settings. These instances may interfere the updating process. To get past the problem, follow the steps below to review your Internet Explorer settings:

  1. Open Internet Explorer on your computer.
  2. Go toTools, and select Internet Options.
  3. From the Security tab, click the Globe icon and make sure the security level is no higher then Medium-high.
  4. Go to the Connections tab, select Never Dial a Connection if you do not use the dial-up node (DUN) on the system, or select the correct ISP if you do.
  5. Hit OK.
  6. Pick LAN Settings, then make sure the automatically detect settings is selected, and check whether Use a Proxy Server checkbox is clear.
  7. Select Ok.
  8. From the Advanced tab, select Restore Advanced Settings, and, under Settings, locate Use TLS 1.2, and verify it is selected.
  9. Select OK.
  10. Close Internet Explorer.

Once done, reboot the computer and re-open QuickBooks Desktop and try the update again. You may also want to try checking other solutions from this article: Get help with errors 12002, 12007, 12009, 12029, and 12031 when updating

That should rectify the problem. I'm just a post away if you need further assistance or encounter any issues along the way. I'll be glad to help you anytime. Have a good one!

I can't update QB (desktop 2010 version) and get error 12007. Any help?

Hi,

I have the same issue.

I've installed QB 2010 desktop version on my new Windows 10 laptop.

My company file was being used on a Windows 7 machine under build R5 but my new installation is build R1 and I can't download any updates.

I've tried:-

  • the Internet Explorer solution here
  • downloded and run TLS12SecurityPatch tool
  • downloded the Quickbooks Tool Hub and run the following:-
    • Quick Fix my Program
    • Quickbooks Program Diagnostic Tool
    • Quickbooks Install Diagnostic Tool

Any help to fix this issue would be appreciated.

@jaygee11

QB 2010 doesn't support Win 10. Try reinstall it with Compatibility Mode Win 7. If the problem persists, consider upgrading to QB 2020. If your company is not located in UK, consider cross-grading to QBD US version with a one time license.

I appreciate you for joining the thread, jaapkrijger. I'm here to help you with updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Instead of clicking on the link provided by Ashleigh1 above, you can use this: Downloads & Updates. From there, you can search and download the QuickBooks version you need.

If you receive error 12007, it means that QBDT can't successfully connect to the internet which causes issues during the update. To isolate the issue, you need to do the following:

  1. Test connectivity and settings.
  2. Review the Internet Explorer settings
  3. Check security settings

For the detailed steps, you can check out the instructions provided by Anonymous above. Otherwise, skim through this US article (same solution work for UK version) for additional troubleshooting guides: Get help with errors 12002, 12007, 12009, 12029, and 12031 when updating.

I'm also adding these articles as your future references in fixing other installation and update errors in the future:

I appreciate your efforts in performing the steps to update your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account, @bmwplumbing. I'm here to share with you some additional information about this.

QBDT 2010 is already outdated. Users with this version may not enjoy the latest available features and updates. Thus, it's one factor why you can't update your account.

As of now, you can consider upgrading your QuickBook account to the supported versions (QBDT 2019, QBDT 2020, and QBDT 2021). a27 1.PNG

If you don't need the add-on services, your product will continue to work for you for tracking purposes. However, you'll not be able to enjoy the online services and subscribe to live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop.

If you wish to upgrade your subscription, you can use this link as your reference: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Desktop Prem.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!

I can't update QB (desktop 2010 version) and get error 12007. Any help?

I long gave up on QBDT 2010. Have asked around and been given a copy of QB Premier... 2016, exactly what I needed. Have never been interested in online, have never used any additional stuff. So am happy as it is. My problem was more than one, to run 2018 or newer you need Win8 or newer, which my 2009 comp can't do....

I appreciate the fact that you used our system years ago, @jaapkrijger.

Getting the QuickBook Desktop (QBDT) 2018 is my top priority here. This way, you can begin to manage your company file in an updated version.

Obsolete Windows computers are more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. That's why QuickBooks requires you to use updated Windows to run your business smoothly. For additional guidance, see this link: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and Enterprise Solutions 18.0.

As an option, I would recommend contacting an IT guy. They may find a way to how your computer runs Windows 8 or later. This way, you can install the QBDT 2018 version as soon as possible. To download this, please click the link provided by Angelyn_T above.

Additionally, once QBDT 2018 is installed, you can obtain the latest version (2022) at any time. In doing so, you can take advantage of the latest features and updates available. Check out this article for more information: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

Moreover, here are helpful answers to frequently asked questions if you use older Windows:

Let me know if you have other questions that I can help you with your account. I'm glad to work with you again, @jaapkrijger. Stay healthy and safe.

@bmwplumbing

You can purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2019 UK version to lower your cost when upgrading your version.
