There are currently no known issues with the error you get when filing your return. I suggest changing the filing status from rejected to filed. I'll show you how:
Please note: You won't be able to resubmit the period to HMRC after the return has been marked as filed. If you need to resubmit the period, you must contact HMRC personally.

I have the same error message but there is no option for me to "Resubmit Return". What can I do?
Hello Ibg2020, thanks for posting on this thread, so what options are you getting if you do not see the resubmit option?
Record payment
Record refund
View return
View VAT details
View exception details.
I have phoned HMRC today and they told me to unauthorize and then re-authorize Quickbooks or Making Tax Digital. Which i have done. There has been no change.
Thank you for your reply
Thanks for coming back and performing some troubleshooting steps to get this sorted out, lbg2020.
I checked our records, and there is no reported case about this one in which there is an error when filing your return and the Resubmit return option is no longer available. We can perform some basic troubleshooting tests to better isolate the problem. Change the filing status from rejected to filed in a private browser. The private mode prevents the cache from being retained while the website is up and running, which may cause issues. Here's a list of shortcut keys that you can use to get to one:
Then, try changing the status of the filing from rejected to filed. I'll demonstrate:
If it works fine, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Moreover, you can use another supported and up-to-date browser to narrow down the result.

I have exactly the same issue and options.
Never had a problem before, so I would like to know the answer to this too.
Hi,
Ive just tried the steps you suggested, however the return is not marked as rejected just that there is an internal server error, so it is not giving me the option to resubmit.
Thanks
Becky

I had that error now, says internal server error and to phone HMRC
When I logged in to HMRC .gov, the vat is filed and is in the list with all the others.
I did the process where I clicked resubmit and marked it as filed.
So it seems HMRC has it, it is there online, I did not get the confirmation email from HMRC. There is a bug in the QB software I think.
Before marking the VAT return "marked as filed" I also checked the Government Gateway Account that HMRC had received my VAT return.
I have exactly the same issue. I phoned HMRC who told me that my account was operating correctly as I could log in as usual, therefore the issue is with the QB software. I have tried logging in to a private browser but I only get the following options.
Record refund
View return
View HM Revenue and Customs (VAT) details
View exception details
The status tab says offline with the pop up message "we're having trouble connecting to HMRC. Don't worry this is normally fixed within a few hours". It has been four days and the issue has not been corrected.
I have tried unauthorising and reauthorising MTD and if I click on the Take Action button in QB it asks me to prepare a return but nothing happens.
I'm now out of ideas.
