We recently announced exciting innovations coming to QuickBooks Online in November. Powered by the Intuit platform, a reimagined QuickBooks will bring:
AI experiences to help automate tasks and workflows
A smarter dashboard to surface tools, data, and proactive insights
New features to help your clients do more on a single solution
Starting this month, we’re introducing early access to a new QuickBooks Online interface that represents the first step in realising our vision of bringing together QuickBooks Online and Mailchimp to deliver an integrated platform that streamlines workflows and helps increase productivity to drive business growth.
During early access, your core QuickBooks workflows won’t change, but you’ll get the refreshed look and feel with the reimagined dashboard
Introducing Intuit apps: Core QuickBooks features and add-ons are now called Intuit apps, all conveniently located at the top of your dashboard. This change makes it easier to access the functionality you need, make use of all the tools, and make the most of the Intuit platform as business needs expand.
Customisable navigation: Put your most-used tools front and centre and bookmark frequent actions. Customise your dashboard to match your workflows so you can keep focused and on-task.
Smart, unified search: No more digging for the info you need. With platform-wide search, you can find specific transactions, customers, accounts, reports, help, and more with consolidated results, all in one place.
Early access will be available on Simple Start, Essentials, Plus and Advanced, while Ledger and Sole Trader will have access at a later date.
Both you and your client will be able to opt into this experience in their QuickBooks Online account, and therefore you may see a new view when accessing a client’s books.
From late August, as an accountant user, you can choose to opt in or out each client directly in their QuickBooks Online account. Or, you can opt in all your clients at once within QuickBooks Online Accountant by selecting a client you want to opt-in, clicking on the settings gear icon, and then the Switch icon. From here, you will be able to switch all your clients to the new experience, or continue in the previous version.
We will notify you as soon as the new experience is available in your clients’ QuickBooks.
If a client opts themselves in, a message will appear to let you know, and you’ll see the early access experience when you go into their QuickBooks.
All accounts can be reverted back to the previous QuickBooks experience during this period. To revert back, go to Settings (the gear icon in the top right navigation bar) and select Switch back to the previous QuickBooks experience at the bottom of the screen.
Early access will continue through the next few months, and you can opt clients in or out at any time. In November, we’ll begin rolling out the new user interface across your client base. We’ll also introduce Intuit’s AI agents, customer hub, and fully connected data and insights. We’ll continue to share updates as we get closer.
Your feedback is important. As you and your clients interact with the early access experience, let us know what you think. Go to Settings (the gear icon in the top right navigation bar) and select Feedback.
We’re excited to partner with you as we evolve QuickBooks into an end-to-end business platform that can better support you, your firm, and your clients.
What additional features will be available in QuickBooks Online as part of early access?
This initial phase is focused exclusively on the new user interface (UI). There are no new functionalities or features being introduced for the early access programme. This visual update paves the way for Intuit’s powerful AI agents and enhanced customer hub features that will be part of the full launch in November.
How will these changes affect my QuickBooks Online clients?
The primary change you and your clients will notice is a new look and feel within QuickBooks Online. Core workflows, accounting features, and data are not changing. The goal is to provide a cleaner workspace without disrupting how you and your clients get work done.
How will this impact how I use QuickBooks Online?
This UI update will impact some of your clients’ current navigation paths but we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition. One thing to note is that your bookmarks will remain when you switch to the new experience.
When will my QuickBooks Online clients be transitioned to the new UI?
The end of August will mark the start of our early access programme, where you can choose to opt in your clients to the new experience and UI. From November onwards, the new UI will be rolled out for all QuickBooks Online customers.
Who can opt in or out of the new UI?
The ability to switch between the new and classic UI is limited to the Primary Admin and/or Accountant of the QuickBooks Online account.
Do I have to manually opt in or out all of my clients, one by one?
We understand that managing this setting for all your clients individually can be time-consuming. Coming soon, our team has developed a tool to allow for bulk opt-in/out management for your client list. When the tool is available:
1. Go to QuickBooks Online Accountant and click on the Settings gear icon
2. At the bottom of the panel, select Switch
3. Select to switch all clients to the new experience or stay on previous version
Will data be lost or impacted when switching between the new and current views of QuickBooks Online?
Absolutely not. Switching between the new UI and the current view does not impact your clients financial data in any way. All your clients' information is preserved and available in both experiences.
How can I share my feedback about the new design?
Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. If you choose to opt out of the new UI, you will be presented with a brief survey. Please share your thoughts there, as this information will go directly to our product teams to help them refine the experience for our broader launch. You can also always provide feedback by clicking the settings gear icon in your clients account and selecting “Feedback”.
Will there be any changes to my Accountant Tools within QuickBooks Online?
Yes, the location of your Accountant Tools is changing. They will be moved to the new 'My Menu' section at the top of the left navigation bar. This section will contain the same tools and functionality as before, and will now also include your Bookmarks.
Will the new UI be applied to my firm's books ("My Books") in QuickBooks Online Accountant?
No. Your own firm's books within QuickBooks Online Accountant will not be impacted and will remain in the classic view.
