Quickbooks Windows to Quickbooks Mac

I'm trying to back up my QuickBooks 2020 on my Windows 10 so I can transfer the files to my MacBook Pro QuickBooks 2020. Everything that I've googled comes up with the answer that when I go File > Utilities > Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac. Sounds simple enough but when I go to my Utilities drop down I'm not getting the option to Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac. I'm confused, tired and sick of this. Can anyone help? In dire need before I go buy another windows laptop.

You may convert your data file of QB Pro/Premier 2020 US version to QB Mac 2020, and vice versa. Unfortunately you have to purchase a 3rd party service to convert QB Pro/Premier CA version to QB Mac 2020.

Quickbooks Windows to Quickbooks Mac

Hello Jha,

Don't worry, I can help explain what's going on. I know not seeing the steps you've found outlined in a help article can be confusing and I want to make sure you have the correct information so you know the options for QuickBooks Desktop Canada.

As Fiat Lux alluded to, QuickBooks Desktop Canada doesn't have a Mac version of the program. This is why you're not seeing the "Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac" in your options when you're looking in your program. The article you found is likely from a section of the US QuickBooks Community or from a website that's giving steps for the US version.

There are a couple of solutions here. The first is to continue using QuickBooks Desktop on a Windows platform. The second option is to use a program or software that can split your Mac operating system to allow for a Windows partitioning. This would allow you to install QuickBooks Desktop on the Windows portion of the system, but still allow you to use a Mac. Check out this article to learn more about this: Is there a CA version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac?

The third party service that Fiat Lux is referring to is likely a service that would convert your CA file to a US one to allow you to use the QuickBooks Desktop for Mac US software. If you decide to go this route, keep in mind that the US software is configured for US tax and payroll purposes, so it might be a bit of extra work to make it usable for a Canadian business.

Feel free to leave us feedback about wanting a QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Canada version. We love hearing from users like you about what we can do to enhance the program to making running your business easier. Simply click the Help menu in product and then choose Send Feedback Online.
