How do I connect a bank feed if the bank is set-up for 2 step authentication?

Hi there, Kevin90,

I love that you're looking to connect your bank in the Banking tab while using QuickBooks Online! It's a great option for easily bringing in your transactions and sorting them in your books. I'll go over a bit more about this feature so you have a sense of what banks can connect.

QuickBooks Online can connect with a wide variety of banks and credit cards in the banking feed. All it takes is searching the bank in the setup process, and then following the steps. For the most part, QuickBooks Online doesn't support multi-factor authentication. If it's an option for your bank, you'd see it as a part of this process. If not, then it's not available at this time.

The reason for this is that the bank feed uses an automatic connection to pull in the transactions. For accounts with two-step authentication, it requires you to enter that every single time, which doesn't work with the automatic process depending on the parameters set up by the bank.

The options in this case are to turn off the multi-factor authentication in your bank account or to manually upload your transactions instead. I know the multi-factor authentication is in place to add an extra layer of protection to your financial information and I can appreciate not wanting to turn it off. That's where manually uploading the transactions comes in.

Following the Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online article, you'll see the steps it takes to do this. While it's a few extra steps than an automatic feed, it still saves you from having to individually enter each transaction through the QuickBooks Online features.

Finally, I encourage you to submit feedback about the options available in the banking feed. We're constantly looking for ways to develop and enhance what QuickBooks Online offers and feedback from users like you can help us achieve that. Here's how to submit: How do I submit feedback?

I'll be around if you'd like clarification about any of that. Have a great rest of your day!
