Should commission employees be getting vacation pay? We aren’t able to edit their vacation policy. There is no pencil icon next to question 4 under pay!

Hi there,

We're happy to have you as a QuickBooks user! I'll be glad to share more info on how vacation pay works in QuickBooks.

At this time, Commission only employees aren't able to accrue vacation but there's a workaround which I'll explain to to you shortly. Since vacation time is important for your employees, you'll have to set the employees using the Hourly rate instead of Commission only. Here's how you can do that:

1. Navigate to Employees on the left menu panel.

2. From the Employees list, select the employee you’re working and click on it to view the pay information.

3. In the Edit employee details section, go to the How much do you pay section to update the hourly rate.

4. When the How much do you pay window opens, change the drop down from Commission to Hourly.

5. Hit the Done button to save the changes.

After you've done this, you can now add the Commission pay type by following the steps below:

Add the Commission pay type.

  1.     Click the Employees tab.
  2.     Select the employee name.
  3.     In the Pay section, click Edit.
  4.     Under Additional pay, select the Commission checkbox.Note: If the Commission pay type is displayed, click Show additional pay types. If it's not included in the pay type list, contact us.
  5.     If you want to change the name of the pay type, click Edit and enter a unique name.
  6.     Click Save. When you create a regularly scheduled paycheck or an unscheduled check for the employee, the Commission field appears in the compensation section of the Enter Employee Pay Details page.

Going forward you'll have to manually enter the commission hours on your payroll and the vacation will be automatically calculated. Let me know if you need me to clarify further. I'll be on standby. :)
