Hi Robin L,

One of the greatest benefits of using QuickBooks Online is that it's always up-to-date. It doesn't require you to update your taxes or payroll module. Our amazing team of product developers keeps the program relevant and timely. Let me explain what isn't being updated.

QuickBooks Online is moving away from the app and is focusing on the program being accessed through your internet browser. The QuickBooks Online Windows and Mac desktop apps are no longer supported as of April 20, 2021. This won't affect your ability to use the program; you'll only need to sign in to your account differently.

Continue using your QuickBooks Online account in your internet browser using the same login credentials you used in the app. You can count on your source deductions to be in line with Government Regulations to answer the question you asked in your other post.

If you have any further questions, reach out. I'm here to help. Take care.

Hi there,

For this Friday's pay July 2nd the payroll is not up to date with the new CRA rates for Federal Tax.

This is for QuickBooks Online Accountant - we have three companies on payroll and I really do not want to make a manual adjustment on each person's federal tax.

Hello Janet,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. One of the great things about QuickBooks Online is that the program can automatically update since it works in the cloud. That means, QuickBooks Online Payroll should as well. Since you're saying that yours hasn't, I want to make sure this is addressed so you can get back to running payroll without having to spend time on adjustments.

The first steps I recommend taking in this situation are to clear cache, try a private browser, and try another browser type. It could simply be that the program is hung up on old data, and taking these steps helps to clear that out if that's the case. Give those a try one at a time to see if they make a difference. If not, we'll want to take a closer look at this.

In order for us to do that, it's best for you to call, chat, or message us. Doing that, we'll be able to see what you're seeing and ensure these concerns are addressed and the program is up to date and calculating properly. It'll also give us the opportunity to escalate the issue if it comes to that. Here's how you can reach support.

Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right in QuickBooks Online > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.

Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram.
Support hours are from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

Get in touch with us as soon as you have a moment! We've got your back and are here to help.

Hi

Thanks for responding, I just need to clarify that the federal rates are fine. It is the provincial rate for New Brunswick that needs the change.  Note below from CRA:

New Brunswick
New Tax Rate
  • The Government of New Brunswick announced on May 11, 2021, that there would be a reduction of the tax rate applied to the first tax bracket from 9.68% to 9.4% effective January 1, 2021, subject to the approval by the New-Brunswick government.
  • Since employees have been taxed at a different rate for the first six months of the year, a prorated tax rate will apply for the remaining six months.
  • The prorated tax rate effective July 1, 2021 will be 9.12%
  • For those using the Option 2 tax formula based on cumulative averaging, no proration is required. Use the new rate of 9.4% and a value of 0.00 for factor KP for the first tax bracket. For details on the option 2 tax formula see the January 2021 release of this guide.

Hi VintageJ,

Thanks for sharing that information. QuickBooks Online Payroll should be in line with the CRA. If this is not what you're seeing, I recommend reaching out to support as my colleague suggested above. An agent can go through the information with you in a one-on-one session and make notes of the discrepancies. It may be an issue that needs to be escalated.

Have a great night!
