If we rehire an employee that was laid off and issued an ROE, can we just make them "active" and add their new start date?

Hi marilyn32,

It's a pleasure to see you in Community.  Welcome!  It's great to hear that your employee has returned! QuickBooks Online Payroll enables you to re-activate them and set up their pay schedule, to ensure they're paid on time.  I'd be glad to assist!

Here's how to make an employee active;

1. From the left menu, open Payroll and then Employees

2. Use the ▼ dropdown menu to view Inactive employees

3. Select the employee name to open their profile

4. Update their Personal information

5. Edit all other areas of the employee profile as necessary

6. Hit Save when completed

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out.  We're always happy to help!

Could not put in new hire date.  Kept getting an error that said to enter a valid date.

Hello BoJo1. Just to confirm, are you getting an error when you try this while using a private/incognito browser window?

No, regular window.

Had to go to QB chat to get figured out.  Took 20 minutes, and she did it for me but didn’t tell me what I did wrong, so I guess every time I rehire I’ll have to spend 20 minutes on chat…..:(

It's good to learn you were able to get the resolution you needed. In case this happens again in the future, I recommend by-passing the errors while using a private/incognito browser window. Feel free to ask other questions, I'm here to help.
