QBO Payroll - How come are the net so different than on the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator

Hello,

Before the holiday break I calculated people's new 2020 net using the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator and QBO Payroll. It was all lining up (maybe a couple 0.01 differences here and there but that was it).

I checked again today and the net amounts calculated on the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator for pay in January 2020 are widely different than announced previously ($5 difference on the net).

QBO is still showing the same results as before the break so I'm continuing to pay people the same rate as early January.

Have you heard of any big change in the 2020 deductions for Ontario (bi-weekly pay period)?

Many thanks in advance,

Svetlana

QBO Payroll - How come are the net so different than on the CRA Payroll Deductions Online Calculator

Hello Svetlana,

It's great that you were on top of your payroll before the holidays and the CRA payroll calculator is a useful tool for working on your calculations outside of the QuickBooks Online Payroll system.

One thing to consider about why the numbers may be different is that the CRA released the updated payroll tax tables late December. Depending on when you did your calculations for the new year, the numbers you originally generated may have been using the 2019 tax tables for taxes and deductions.

I recommend reviewing the Governement of Canada's webpage about Payroll to learn more about changes that have been made. It goes over calculating deductions and has many other helpful pages in addition to that.

To make any corrections to your payroll in QuickBooks Online, I recommend contacting the QuickBooks Online tech support team. What we'll need to look at are things such as what payroll service you're using, whether you're using direct deposit, and other important details before moving forward with corrections. Here's how to contact us.
