setting up employee payroll EI

Cant edit employee file to add phone number is says "object not found: something you're trying to use has been inactive." its status says "active" beside his name.

Also cant click EI exempt. Says "unable to save your tax setup", but doesn't give me a reason why.

setting up employee payroll EI

It's important that all your transactions be entered in your books correctly so your yearly payroll totals can be accurate. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great tool able to help you calculate the payroll for your employees based on their hours worked. I can point you in the right direction to get rid of this error.

One of the things listed in the first error message was made inactive and must be reactivated in order to finish setting up the transaction. Here are some steps to reactivate each of the types of items listed:

Accounts

1. Click on the Gear in the top right and open the Chart of accounts

2. Select the small Gear above the Action column

3. Check the box to Include inactive

4. Scroll through the list of accounts and hit Make active as you see fit

Customers

1. Click on the Sales tab, then Customers

2. Select the small Gear above the Action column

3. Check the box to Include inactive

4. Scroll through the list of customers and hit Make active as you see fit

Suppliers

1. Click on the Expenses tab, then Suppliers

2. Select the small Gear above the Action column

3. Check the box to Include inactive

4. Scroll through the list of suppliers and hit Make active as you see fit

Products and services

1. Click on the Sales tab, then Products and services

2. Select the small Gear above the Action column

3. Check the box to Include inactive

4. Scroll through the list of items and hit Make active as you see fit

Once the affected item is made active once more, the transaction should be able to be saved. So I recommend reactivating all the items listed above that have been made inactive to try to resolve the error. The second error message that seems more vague might also be caused by this error. If the errors still persist after trying to reactivate all the items listed above, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Online support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to provide further assistance by viewing your account in a secure setting to help you get that employee set up. You can reach them using these steps:

Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
Social Media: Facebook and Twitter
