Hello CathyPark,

Working with a date format that meets your bookkeeping needs is one of the ways you can keep organized and on top of your work. I want to make sure you're able to get back on track with the date format in QuickBooks Self-Employed, and I'm here to help.

With a few more details about where you're downloading transactions from and how you're trying to work with them, I'm confident I can steer you in the right direction. It sounds like you may mean that you're downloading your transactions from your banking website and they're in the DD-MM-YYYY format, but you need them to be YYYY-MM-DD. If that's the case, I recommend visiting your bank website to see if there's a way to change the date settings so you can have them in the format you need. You can also consider reaching out to your banking website's support team to find out if that is possible.

As for changing the date format in Excel, I recommend reviewing the help articles on the Microsoft website, such as this one: Format a date the way you want This shows you how to change the date formats, but if you need some extra guidance with the process or it's not working for some reason, the website also has contact details so you can speak with Microsoft support.

If the file you're downloading is coming from QuickBooks Self-Employed and that's not with the date format you're looking for, it may mean changing it in Excel so that it's the setup you want. QuickBooks Self-Employed doesn't have settings for the date format. However, I just tried downloading a file from my QuickBooks Self-Employed and it used the YYYY-MM-DD you're looking for, so you should be good to go.

To go over the options in QuickBooks Self-Employed in more detail, I recommend connecting with a member of our support team using the following steps.

  1. Select the Assistant feature.
  2. Type and enter "talk to human" in the chat window.
  3. Follow the prompts.

I hope this has been helpful! Have a great rest of your day.
