How do I enter a receipt for an item I returned.

Hi usercaflemin_2000,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! It's awesome to see that you're using QuickBooks Self-Employed, which is a simplified version of the software geared toward invoicing, expensing, and tracking things like sales tax and mileage. It sounds to me like you're hoping to enter a refund from a supplier for your returned item. I'll point you in the right direction with figuring this out.

QuickBooks Self-Employed's Transactions section is one of the more versatile features in the software that allows you to connect your bank feed, record supplier receipts, and manually enter transactions. The final option of manually entering transactions may be of use to you here as you'll be able to click Add transaction in that window, then enter the amount and choose the category. There isn't a category for supplier refunds specifically, so you may have to go with the closest fit. I recommend checking with an accountant to see how that might impact your filing later on.

At this time, the program doesn't have a built-in feature for entering supplier refunds, but I can absolutely see how that feature would be just as useful as the others. I have a couple of recommendations for you moving forward.

The first is considering contacting the QuickBooks Self-Employed team directly to see if there is a better way to record this kind of transaction. The second is to leave feedback for our product developers to let them know how useful this feature would be for you. Both of these tasks can be completed similarly.

  1. Select the Assistant feature.
  2. To talk to support, type and enter "talk to human" in the chat.
  3. To leave feedback, type and enter "feedback" in the chat.
  4. Follow the prompts.

Wishing you the best with this!
