Can I use account numbers like 1234.1 and 1234.2 and sort the P&L by only .1 numbers?

account numbers and reports

Hi there, Lil2.

QuickBooks Online has so many great reporting tools for you to take advantage of. I'm glad you've reached out for help with this, and I'd be happy to shed some light on it for you.

Depending on which account type you've set up, you're able to filter the Profit and Loss report to display account-specific transactions. If you're looking to filter by income and expense accounts, follow these steps:

1. Locate the Profit and Loss report from the Reports page.

2. Select your reporting period and click Run Report.

3. Click Customize at the top right side of the page.

4. Click Filter.

5. Click the drop-down menu next to Distribution Account, and select one of your accounts (e.g. 1234.1 or 1234.2).

6. Click Run Report

This will display the transactions that are allocated with one specific account. QuickBooks Online doesn't have a way to filter your Profit and Loss report by bank account directly. The Profit and Loss report is driven by income and expense accounts, not by Balance Sheet accounts, which bank accounts fall under. If that's the case for you, I recommend using Class and Location tracking to filter your report.

Here's how: How to filter the Profit and Loss report by bank account.

I hope this helps you navigate your report with ease. If you have any other questions, or if I haven't quite hit the mark, please don't hesitate to reach out in the comments below. You can also reach out to our phone support team at 855-253-1536 from Monday - Friday, 9am - 8pm EST, and Saturdays 9am - 6:30pm EST. I'm confident these agents will get you back on track.

Have a great day.
