How do I forgive my Owner's Contribution when I dissolve my company?

Hi there, I'm dissolving my LTD company and had put about $4000 into it through owner contribution over the years. How do I forgive that money before I go forward with the dissolution? Thanks in advance.

How do I forgive my Owner's Contribution when I dissolve my company?

Hi there lukejd,

Making sure that your transactions are correctly entered is important to make sure that your books are well balanced. QuickBooks Online is a great tool to help you view your business's finances through a multitude of reports available in the system. I can point you in the right direction to have your transaction correctly entered.

In order to mark this money as forgiven, you may need to create a journal entry or another transaction to move the money from one account to another in your chart of accounts. In order to know which accounts to affect, I recommend reaching out to an accountant. Their accounting knowledge will be able to guide you in choosing which accounts to affect to show that the money is n longer owed to you. If you want to invite your accountant in order for them to see your books, you can do so by entering their contact info in the My Accountant tab. You can also find an accountant near you by clicking on the Find a pro to help button.
