I've seen several articles that suggest that I need to condense my customer file. That's fair, as I have never done that and it may be the root cause of it taking forever to load. But when I click on File > Utilities there is no menu option for Condense, unlike the explanations I read everywhere.
Is there another way to condense the file? Or is there something else I should try? It takes nearly 10 minutes to start now.
The Condense Data utility is exclusively accessible in the United States edition of QuickBooks Desktop, John1234567.
This is why you're unable to see it in your company file since you're using the Canadian version.
Please note that QuickBooks 2019 is no longer supported since 2022. Once a version is discontinued, some important functions may start to work less effectively over time. Aside from that, the software's performance decreases as the size of the company file increases.
There are other steps aside from condensing data that can improve the software's performance. This includes increasing your computer's RAM, manually deleting lists, and creating new company files.

I'm not interested in buying another release of Quickbooks. Functionally, the 2019 version does everything that I use. And from what I have read elsewhere, some people have upgraded and the performance issue has not improved.
Also, I have lots of ram and hard drive, and the performance problem even occurs right after I have rebooted. So I'm pretty sure that it is related to the fact that the data files are expanding over time. A condense utility would be very useful, but I guess Canadians aren't allowed to have that.
Once it finally starts up, the performance is fine. So what exactly can I do to fix the startup issue?
The condense feature is only available in US Desktop version. You can purchase a 3rd party service to condense your file. You can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA directly by email for details.
If your data file has grown, one option is to delete the unused data and create a new company file. While doing this takes extra time and effort, it can help reduce your file size and improve performance, John1234567.
Here's how:
To improve QuickBooks' performance, you can also manage your lists by re-sorting them weekly or merging entries or sub-entries in your lists that you don't use.
You can also clean up your data to improve its performance. Refer to this article for guided steps on how: Manage your data files to fix QuickBooks Desktop performance issues.

I'm a bit reluctant to go there at this point. It feels a bit error prone, and when I look at the file size, it has only grown only from 19 mb in 2019 to 25 mb now. That hardly seems like a massive increase that would explain why it takes around 10 minutes to start up. Is there some way to simply delete old transactions? I have some items in the ledger accounts that go back as far as 2000!
This is a really small company with only one employee!
25 MB is indeed a very small size. Try opening the sample file. Are you experiencing the same problem?
