Allow me to help share information about the sales tax codes in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Depending on the sales tax rules for a province or territory in which you operate your business, you need to collect either a combination of GST and PST, GST only, or HST only. This helps you keep an accurate record of the taxes so you can easily monitor and remit them to the appropriate tax collecting agency.
On the other hand, QuickBooks automatically sets all standard and provincial sales tax code based on the company information you've entered in the Express Start Interview during the creation of your file.

The GST registration number can be found under Company-->Company Info.
The PST info is entered into a Vendor record that is designated as a Sales Tax Agency.
Click on Sales Tax Settings. This is where you would enter your PST registration number.
You would set up the Receiver General vendor that way as well. Personally, I set up three Receiver General vendor accounts. One for Receiver General - GST, another Receiver General - Payroll, and yet another Receiver General - Corporate Tax. It is much simpler to do reconciliations or troubleshoot problems this way, rather than all the tax transactions being lumped under one vendor. There are other methods of classifying the different types of transactions if you do prefer to keep only one Receiver General or CRA vendor, but this keeps things nice and clean.
