What versions of QB will a portable backup from QB Premier Accountant Edition 2008 work with?

Good Afternoon,

I have a copy of QB Premier Accountant Edition 2008 (it was the only one I could get my hands on for free).

I saved my file as a portable backup, so I am wondering what is the oldest version of QB that this portable backup will work with?

Thank You,

It is not surprised if you are able to restore 2005 file on it. You are lucky if you are able to open 2001 file.

What versions of QB will a portable backup from QB Premier Accountant Edition 2008 work with?

Hi there Iwillachieveit,

Creating a portable company file is a fantastic way to move your company file to a new computer, send it in an email, or store on a USB drive. I'm glad you've done this as a way to open your file in a newer version of QuickBooks. Let me go over which versions of QuickBooks Desktop you'll be able to open that portable file with.

When it comes to company file compatibility, there are a few things to keep in mind. When we refer to Product, we mean Pro, Premier, or Enterprise Solutions. The Version of the product is the year, and the Edition is the different business types that are offered through Premier or Enterprise Solutions.

Any version of QuickBooks Desktop from 2008 and onwards will allow you to open your portable file, as long as it's still Canadian. Not only will you be able to use any newer version, but if you'd like to use QuickBooks Pro or Enterprise Solutions you'll have the ability to upgrade to either of those as well. When it comes to the edition that you're using, you aren't confined to any specific one, so while you've been using the Accountant edition, you could open the file in a General Business or Professional services edition as well.

I've included some comprehensive articles that I think you'll find useful:

I know you'll be up and running in a new and improved version of QuickBooks in no time!
