Error Importing
Hi userjoe3,
Getting error messages while uploading your transactions can be a time-consuming experience. QuickBooks is a user-friendly program which enables you to complete your work faster and I'll be happy to help make sure you experience that.
First, it's important to make sure you're using the correct method for uploading transactions. I trust that you've done that on your end and for future reference, here's a helpful article which elaborates more on how to: Add older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed. You're more than welcome to review the article again if you need to as it shows you how to upload transactions. Otherwise, I recommend using a private/incognito window and see if you're getting the error as this may be a browser related issue.
If you're still having issues, don't hesitate to reach back to me. I'll be one message away.
HI, you have misunderstood my issue. I am trying to upload transactions that are older than 90 days. Therefore I have to export my bank transactions into a CSV file, as I had stated earlier. When I do an Import transactions>>Import Older Transactions, I browse and locate the CSV file of my transactions and upload it. QB will then list the transactions, and then the final step is to select Continue. That's when I get this error message....
Error Importing
Hello userjoe3,
Rest assured, I take your concern seriously and am on the same page with the error you're getting when trying to import your older transactions into QuickBooks Self-Employed. I've done a bit of research into the error to learn what might be causing it, and I have a few suggestions for you based on what I've found.
The main focus with these suggestions is on verifying the format of your CSV file. The first thing to make sure of is that there are no blank spaces or rows among the transaction information. If you do see any blank spaces when you open the file, please remove those.
The other thing to ensure with your formatting is that the columns match what the program needs to properly map your information. There are two options.
The first option is that the columns include Date, Transaction name/description, Amount. The date format should be DD/MM/YYYY, and the amount column should show the figures with a plus or minus symbol so the program can see if it's income or an expense.
The second option is similar to the first. For this option, the CSV can have four columns: Date, Transaction name/description, Credit, and Debit. Again, the date format should be DD/MM/YYYY.
In many cases I saw, it was the date format that was causing the error, so I recommend paying particular attention to that detail in your file. Once you've got that squared away, please try importing again.
If you're still having trouble, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Self-Employed team again. I want to make sure you get the proper assistance with this error, and I assure you our team can help. Here's how to reach out if you need the steps.
Feel free to share how you solved the issue here. That way, it helps other users who may come across the same situation find a solution. Wishing you the best!
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I can assure you that I have tried both your options many times. The odd thing is, QB's uploads transactions to June 4, but nothing after that. So the formatting must be correct.
I will try again to try to get a Live person.
Joe
Thanks for the update on what's going on, Joe. I see how some transactions loading and others not being able to would definitely be strange, especially when the document format checks out. Reaching out to support is absolutely the way to go here, so I'm glad you've taken that step.
Cheers.
Thank you for this. I realized that the date was not formated correctly and was able to convert it in excel and it worked properly after!
So typical of text formatting processing.... there was a "\n" in the data and it caused subsequent data columns to be blank.
