If I changed an account in the Chart of Accounts from a sub-account to a regular account, would this affect any prior postings?

Hi MB30,

Great to hear from you again! Working with sub-accounts helps with categorization and organization in your register. If you've decided to remove a sub-account from it's parent account, there's a few things that will be impacted. I'll explain further below.

I'll use an example to illustrate how this works.

Let's say you have a parent account for Travel, with the sub-accounts Transportation and Hotel Fees. If you decide to remove the Transportation sub-account and make it a regular account, the balance from this account will be removed from the Travel parent account.

The transactions associated with the sub-account won't be impacted by changing the status of the account at all, it will simply impact the balance of the parent account.

I hope this helps clear things up for you. If you need any further clarification, please reach out to our tech support team and an agent can work with you one-on-one to get you back on track.

Cheers.

Yes, it changes everything in the past. All past financial statements will show the new structure.
