How do I view a report of each expense by category, showing each individual transactions. I am honestly astounded by the lack of accurate information available about this. Every time I search this issue, I can only find out of date advice,
I am doing my taxes on turbo tax and need to fill out the amount per expense category. I know how to find the amount per category via the profit and loss report. What I am looking for is a way to see the total amount per expense category AS WELL as each individual transaction for that expense category. This seems like something that should be so simple, and useful to business, but I can not for the life of me find this report.
Hi there kai6,
It's vital that all your transactions are entered correctly for your books to be well balanced. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you keep track of sales and expenses to see the profit of your company. I can provide some information about reports.
One report that you can use and customize is the Profit and loss detail, which is located in the Business Overview section of the Reports tab. This is similar to the standard Profit and loss, but it shows the detail of every total. You can click on the Customize option to filter to only the accounts you'd like to see as well.

It is one of the simplest things we need when doing our taxes, so I am not sure why when I go to run a report there is no Report for Category Transactions. I would like to see all of my Auto Expenses with the information I so diligently entered such as the total of the receipt and GST .... why would this not be easy to run in the reports?

Did you end up getting an answer. Is this the report you are after...go in to profit and loss and specify the date range then click on the amount (auto expenses total). It will open up all your transactions entered. You can then click on columns (top right) and tick what you would like to see.
