Hello all,
I'm looking to make our workflow for accepting Credit Card payments as easy as possible, and one thing that I require is a credit card P.O.S./Terminal to help me take payments in the office. I love the feature to take payments online when i send out an invoice, but I have customers that prefer to come into our office and stick their card in a machine.
Is there a terminal out there that integrates/syncs properly with Quickbooks Online (I'm in Canada) that can read the card information and put it into Quickbooks for us? I'd prefer a QB/1st party piece of hardware, but if that's not doable I'm open to other options. I just don't want the extra step of taking a payment on another software/gateway and then manually entering it into QuickBooks when they pay in the office. Thanks everybody!
Hi there,
Accepting credit cards is an integral part of any small business. With fewer people carrying cash, it's essential to have the option to accept credit cards. I can see why your customers would prefer to use a card machine as opposed to processing their payment online. I'll explain the options below.
QuickBooks Online Payments is the only Intuit product that allows you to process credit card transactions. At this time, this is solely used to process payments online, and there's no physical hardware add-on for swipe/tab. I recommend looking into the third-party apps that are compatible with QBO. You can see a list of options here: QuickBooks Apps.
I'm sure some other QuickBooks Online users will chime in with some advice or guidance as to what's worked well for them in the past. I'm confident you'll make the best choice for you and your business.
Have a great day.
Did you find a solution?
Hi Normand. Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I'll be happy to assist you from here so you can get the resolution you're seeking. To get started, could you share more info on what you'd like to accomplish using the program? I'll be a message away.
We are using QB Online and Payments for our internet transactions. We are also using a standard card reader (Global/Desjardins) and I was hoping to try the QB31 but I am being told this is US only. Anything that could work with QB? I don't see anything.
Hi there Normand,
Thanks for the clarification. As QuickBooks Payments is only for online invoices or keyed transactions, It isn't able to connect with a card reader. An app may be able to connect QuickBooks Online with a card reader. You can browse our selection of applications by navigating to the Apps section. You can find the one that best suits the needs of your business. If you have any questions for those specific apps, contact info for each developer is provided within the App details.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.
Hi Normand
You may want to look at something like Plooto, which allows you to send an email to your customer, then they can pay you however- direct from their bank account, via credit card, etc. My wife started using it for her family business a couple years back and swears by it.
Thank for taking the time to reply.
Actually we are using QB Payments for online payments and this is working well, very simple to use and fits our purpose.
I am looking for something that would replace our existing terminal. I am starting to look at the possibility of something like Stripe since this is what we are using on our web site.
Hi Normand,
I appreciate you sharing the options that you're exploring since Payments doesn't have the credit card terminal you've been looking for.
Stripe is one of the apps that you'll find if you click on the Apps section in your QuickBooks Online account. You can type Stripe in the search for an app box, and a list of apps that you can use to connect Stripe will come up. Each option provides information that you can use to compare how the apps work, explore their related fees, and even view ratings from other users. With this knowledge, I'm confident you'll find the right fit for you and your business.
If a card terminal for QuickBooks Online Payments is something you'd like to see added in future QuickBooks Online product updates, please provide feedback. Hi there - this is a "repeat" of the post below from 2020. Is anyone in Canada using a credit card payment processing system that reads the card into QBO in a "point of sale" environment? This would replace the Square terminal that we are using that is "independent" of QBO.
The problem is that you always need to match sales receipts to payments received through Square. It makes it a two-step process, and consumes time. Also, QBO Payments is missing out on the transaction fees and no payment data is stored in QBO - it's all in Square.
In short, (or am I too late for that) :) - we want a hardware/software solution that allows us to swipe and/or tap payments into QBO without having to "key in" the credit card information. Customers won't wait for that.
Thanks for any tips you can offer. Cam
We can recommend a 3rd party merchant service to integrate with your QB Online/Desktop. They offer an affordable, lowest-cost "Chip and Pin" terminals, ship them to every corner of the country already programmed, "plug and play" ready. They also can let your retail store keep a reliable "backup" machine on hand for emergencies. They support with whatever retail Point-of-Sale system you're looking at. And if it's not, they can either add it to the long list of integrated partners of theirs or enable your store to de-couple the card-swipe from the Point-of-Sale.
